Obama has nothing to say about what Trump is doing, but he did post his NCAA bracket.

Biden has nothing to say about what Trump is doing, but he found time to post about St. Patrick's Day.

Harris has nothing to say about what Trump is doing, but she tweeted to celebrate International Women's Day.

It's not just Schumer. Dems have no idea how to mount a meaningful resistance. It's just BAU with them while the US descends into a Constitutional crisis. Hand the keys of the party to AOC, please!

@augieray

Obama Biden Haris Schumer

All quite wealthy - and what Trump is doing will greatly benefit the wealthy.
Why would they try to stop him? They have nothing to gain personally any more.

This is class warfare. They are making a 2 state nation. With incredibly privileged powerful wealthy.. and uneducated, slaves with no rights or protections

@Jem_of_Oz @augieray I don't disagree with anything you've said but I've always thought that there were always only two classes, the worker class and the owner class.

@wrath0110 @Jem_of_Oz @augieray That’s an interesting perspective! I think the distinction between worker and owner class has always been fundamental, but do you think modern economic structures have blurred the lines a bit? With things like stock ownership and entrepreneurship, some people seem to exist in between.
@annetteanderson3330 @Jem_of_Oz @augieray Blurred, no doubt, but perhaps only from the worker's perspective. I have no anecdotal evidence but I believe the owners know the difference.

@annetteanderson3330 @wrath0110 @augieray

The middle class, small business owners & the like was created at the time of the industrial revolution.

The ruling class look down their nose at "Neuvo riche" & the working class aspire to be them..This is useful for the owners, as any action pro working class, such as increasing tax on high income, they can claim as "stopping you from getting ahead and joining the middle class" lies of course

plutocrats think its now unnecessary so are raping it.

@Jem_of_Oz @augieray DO NOT DARE go there. They all tried to tell people. They still try. You must work for Elon to spread this propaganda.

@Rworld @augieray

What the actual hell makes you think i am spreading pro musk/trump propaganda... I LITERALLY said
"he is creating a class of and uneducated, slaves with no rights or protections"

You think that is a vote of support?

@Rworld @Jem_of_Oz @augieray

I really don't get how you can act like Biden, Harris, and Obama are beyond reproach right now. Please tell us where they are trying right now ...

They could still be leaders of the resistance and I would follow, but their silence is deafening.

@madeingermany @Rworld @augieray

If youre unclear on what "Quiet Quitting" is,
the Dems are giving a masterclass in it right now.

Honestly my left goolie with a frowning face drawn on it, would do a more effective job than that shower.

The Bidens want back in

Former President Joe Biden has told some Democratic leaders he’ll raise funds, campaign and do anything else necessary for Democrats to recover lost ground.

@Pineywoozle @Jem_of_Oz @augieray

I'm glad "Biden privately met last month with the new Democratic National Committee chairman" and I get why he might not be the top choice to get us out of this, but it's still pretty disappointing.

@madeingermany They should welcome him as part of a coalition to raise the voices of Americans. Millions would donate & are still pissed he got pushed out. @Jem_of_Oz @augieray

@Pineywoozle @Jem_of_Oz @augieray

Agree, if he said something like "I'm not gonna be in office again, but I'm here to help, let's do something to preserve our democracy!" I would support him and so would many others.

A very large amount of people in the US are willing to follow anything that's not "DNC Decorum BS".

@madeingermany @Pineywoozle @augieray

THats good news..He would be great, as would be Obama, Hillary, kamala and Bernie if they get very noisy and active

However none of them should stand for POTUS if and when USA is allowed to have free and fair elections again

While all would make fine presidents, none have the vote getting appeal to Mr n Mrs Schmow from MiddleTvBurb.

To be POTUS you have to win elections by getting people to vote for you. Obama aside, none of them have that X factor.

@Jem_of_Oz Yeah I don’t want them to run but honestly I feel like they’ve all given so much WE should step the fuck up & help them wake up our neighbors. @madeingermany @augieray

@Jem_of_Oz We had a tiny adolescent American opossum wander in one day and start eating our giant Norwegian Forrest Cat Fred’s food. @augieray First, I miss Jimmy Carter.
Second, Obama gets a pass, he's "retired".
But Biden and Harris were holding themselves up to be POTUS, the leader of our party and democracy, less than 12 months ago.
You don't just lose a close election, that you should/could have won, and go away and abdicate symbolic leadership, inspiring the base, and non-voters.
To just walk away and be quiet suggests neither was worthy of being POTUS. Trump certainly is not.

@jab01701mid @augieray

I assume you miss Jimmy Carter, at least in part, because of absolutely awesome former president he was? But Obama gets a pass?

@DoNotPunchDown @jab01701mid @augieray Carter set a high bar for what a former president can be his post-presidency work was incredible. As for Obama, I get that he’s ‘retired,’ but do you think he should be more vocal given the current political climate? Some argue his influence is still needed.

@annetteanderson3330 @jab01701mid @augieray

Personally, i really don't give af what he has to say. He was the biggest disappointment in my life. I don't believe a word out of his mouth and haven't since the FISA vote. Though i still had high hopes he'd do the right thing in the oval.

But he's one of the very few people in an exclusive club, with immeasurable influence. Of course he should get involved. Not doing so kind of proves the point he wasn't in this for the American people

@jab01701mid @augieray Leadership isn’t just about winning elections it’s about showing up, especially after a loss. Biden and Harris stepping back instead of rallying the base is a missed opportunity. Contrast that with Trump, who never truly ‘goes away.’ Do you think their silence is strategic, or does it signal a lack of real leadership?

@jab01701mid Obama gets a pass, but Biden and Harris don't? Obama is "retired" at 63 but you think Biden should be fighting at 82?

Hold Obama to a higher standard.

@augieray I want to re-iterate why I feel differently about Biden/Harris than Obama or Clinton or Bush, who are members of "the Club".

"Biden and Harris were holding themselves up to be POTUS, the leader of our party and democracy, less than 12 months ago".

@jab01701mid You can reiterate that all you want, but Obama campaigned for Harris less than 12 months ago. Obama is younger than Biden. And Obama is FAR more influential with young voters. You do you, but you're letting one of the most powerful voices on the left skate for, IMO, very dubious reasons.

@augieray hard as it may be to accept, there is a political reasoning behind this: give him all the rope he wants to hang himself with. Enough for the rest of the movement, too.

Sanders and AOC aren't having any of it. Maybe they don't think a mainstream Dem win will change the world for the better enough. Maybe they don't believe in sacrificing the well-being of folks to win the war for everybody's future.

Both are valid strategies, I think. Blow me if I know which one'll work.

@grouchox @augieray IMO lame-asses doing nothing and hoping that the criminals hoist themselves by their own petards is like looking under a streetlight for something you dropped in the dark.

@augieray

@augieray

If the time comes, and Trump and Elmo are being put up against a wall, the business as usual Democrats might find they're given prime spots next to them.
@augieray Pramila Jayapal has started doing some good organizing. Around 800 people showed up at a Resistance Lab kickoff in Seattle last night!
@augieray Infighting on the left about who is doing “enough” or doing it “the right way” is exactly what the Trump advisors wish for.

@neilo @augieray

This!
This is what "the left" is best at.
Monty Python's Life of Brian got that right...
"The only people we hate more than Elon and Trump are the fucking Democrats."

@neilo @augieray You can't fix the party if you can't say what the problem is
@brent_bartlett @augieray OP didn't say what the problem is, either. Or if he did, then all I got was then former Presidents and VPs need to "have something to say". If we're here to talk about meaningful resistance then I must have a different idea what "meaningful" is.
@augieray there's a small chance they're doing something they don't want to draw attention to just yet, but I wouldn't bet on it.

@augieray Obama did his time in a most difficult position. He served and led the nation well. I don't hold his silence against him at all.

I do however blame Biden for leaving us very vulnerable to the mess we are in.

@tomdecanio @augieray

Have you ever thought that about Obama when he does show up to interject though? 'You had your time, youre done, no help, get lost'

One of the fundamental bipolar problems of Democrats is they have avatars and idols who can solely exert prerogative as they please and never err in doing so. Ever. RBG to the last day.

@augieray I have to say that I can't comprehend how on earth none reacts !

I mean are they so illiterate about democracy that they don't see the problem? Are they so stupid that they don't see the problem? Are they so afraid that they don't dare to talk?

@tomtom @augieray

"Are they so afraid that they don't dare to talk?"

@philpetree @augieray and so what is that reasoning? Who is to abide by it? Trump certainly didn't. And it's not in the Constitution.
@clusterfcku @philpetree @augieray Exactly. There are no norms anymore. If your abiding by norms you’re fighting yesterdays battles.
@donald_brady @clusterfcku @augieray That's why it's important to read the book. Besides being a phenom of a history lesson, it clearly spells out why presidents don't (or rarely) speak out. Carter became a case in point.
@philpetree @donald_brady @augieray and what is your takeaway from it? I'm not convinced yet that this book says much about why Harris is absent and Walz is out in public, the Trump - Obama relationship, or how removing security clearance of rivals is part of club membership.

@clusterfcku @donald_brady @augieray

Walz has no play for the future so he can say whatever he wants. Kamala is still trying to angle her way. She THINKS her best play is to be Gov of CA for a few years and then rerun for POTUS but she's wrong.

Again, read the book... cutting off security clearances is extremely short-sighted, a hallmark of Trumpism.

@philpetree @donald_brady @augieray fair but you still haven't made your case based on the book, so what does the book say that applies today to Obama or Harris? My take is that whatever the observations were about past presidents simply does not apply. Relying on any decorum or club agreement is fully outdated since Trump 1. Those old club rules are not a constitutional prescription. So what is your take about the book that applies to Trump 2?

@clusterfcku @donald_brady @augieray

Read the book, not the synopsis, but the actual book. Learn how so much of what is happening today has been building. Learn how each president, while public enemies, have relied on each other.

@augieray It seems like one of the weaknesses of the US presidential system is that after the election there isn't a clear central figure for the losing party to organise itself around.

In the Westminster system the leader of the opposition is a position that is always occupied, whereas the democrats won't have a presidential candidate for most of the next four years. It seems bonkers to me that you have a system that leaves it that long.
