Spectacled bear (Tremarctos ornatus)
Mother keeps an eye out as her cub nuzzles for comfort. The spectacled bear, or Andean bear, is the only bear that comes from Peru.
It is vegetarian, usually dining on fruit, leaves, and honey. Numbers of these bears have fallen rapidly due to hunting and loss of habitat, but WLT-funded projects in South America are working to protect them.

It’s dinner time as a pink dolphin catches a fish in its long, narrow beak. A freshwater cetacean, it’s memorable for its rosy hue. Sadly it is now found in only three river basins in South America, endangered by fishing, hydroelectric dams, the dumping of mercury in waterways, and toxins released by algae.

I try pretty hard to keep a hold of my childhood wonder. What can be. That, "Anyone can be my friend" energy. It's really trying and tiring when you let other realties in. But I also remind myself, there's only so much time left before I cease to exist so I might as well invest it in the enjoyable parts while trying to ensure its enjoyable for others.
I'm enjoying this influx of new people to follow, but it feels transactional. It's devoid of genuine interaction.
