"The organizers of this very conference have banned lawmakers representing populist parties on both the left and the right from participating in these conversations," says US Vice President JD Vance at the Munich Security Conference, apparently referencing the German far-right AfD party.
"...if American democracy can survive 10 years of Greta Thunberg scolding you guys can survive a few months of Elon Musk," VP Vance tells the Munich Security Conference.
As JD Vance's MSC speech ended, only a few US Republican senators "stood to applause. Most attendees remained seated," according to pool reporter Cat Zakrzewski of the
Washington Post.
@w7voa
The Republicans are trying to promote the fascist far-right parties yet still most Americans and even most Europeans think that now is the time to be attacking Democrats and further erode their political capital.
@w7voa That level of ‘protest’ is compliance by a different name.
@w7voa
Look Putin envoy disrupting the Munich security conference as usual.
@w7voa ...there is a small difference in power. Musk is the richest man in the world , has SpaceX, Tesla, X , Thunberg had only her character.
@ErikJonker @w7voa She also didn't have root access to U.S. government computer systems. She didn't shutdown U.S. government funding or fire scores of federal workers. It's not an apt comparison. MAGA relishes whataboutism, but Vance is not very good at it.

Musk is the richest man in the world, […] Thunberg had only her character.

Having character clearly puts the advantage on her side.

@ErikJonker @w7voa

@ErikJonker @w7voa Greta is still here, and still *has* 1000000 times the character of these assholes.
@w7voa I don’t recall Greta looting vaste swathes of US federal institutions, alongside a merry band of youthful Viking hackers.

@w7voa Well Greta didn't do any of the following ->

Fire Employees

Freeze funding or claw it back

Get access to any government systems and who knows what changes were made

Issue executive orders for imposing tariffs.

Pardon insurrectionists.

Want to kick out Palestinians and take over their lands.

Want Ukraine to roll over and let Russia take their lands.

You can say what you like about Greta, but I have my doubts about surviving President Musk and his puppet.

@w7voa wonder if that Thunberg line sounded clever in his head.
Thanks to the ivy league for this one.

@w7voa

"...if American democracy can survive 10 years of Greta Thunberg scolding you guys can survive a few months of Elon Musk,"

The relentless way in which all #Republican talking points resolve down to one or two cliched sound bites is astounding

Here, the threat is now #GretaThunberg, and the savior will be #ElonMusk

Oh

"As #JDVance's MSC speech ended, only a few US #Republican senators "stood to applause. Most attendees remained seated,""

At least the Europeans aren't idiots

@w7voa I remember when Greta was given free access to state payroll systems and decimated the oil industry through mass layoffs
@w7voa of course the analogy is bad but it’s also fascinating to consider why Vance thinks it’s good. Does he actually think what Musk is doing is wagging his finger at a naughty government that got out of hand? Scolding? You need an extreme level of detachment to hand-wave such large quantities of suffering, but Vance is all too ready to show you he has it.
@w7voa
The difference, JuDd, is that, deep down, everyone knows Greta is right.
