I’m struggling to figure out how to stay motivated and excited when it feels like the tech industry has sucked all of the fun and passion out… feels like the nerds and artists have been replaced with bros and hustlers.
Back at work with the team at @Sketch today and I'm happy to say that the work we're doing is fun, exciting, and whatever the opposite of “bro and hustler-ie" is ✨
@rafa @Sketch we need more companies like Sketch making great products and having fun doing it
@rafa Right there with you, friend. It's a real effort every day.

@rafa I feel the same way. Reading this post this morning is helping me a bit: https://dansinker.com/posts/2025-01-22-seeds/

Keep exploring the margins.

@nsmsn oh that was beautiful, thanks for sharing!
@rafa whew, there are still pockets of folks (but… yeah)
@rafa it’s not easy. I stay off of spaces and communities (like LinkedIn feeds) that perpetuate hustle culture and stick to Mastodon and RSS feeds of creators who inspire me to build.
@rafa I think they’re still there, just not very actively on social media anymore.
@rafa I can relate. It’s a strange phase we’re living in when tech companies are just a fork of each other’s AI fad implementation, while creativity and the humanity of the process is relegated to a secondary position.
Nevertheless, I try to get inspired by other designers’ work and stay away from LinkedIn as much as possible.
@rafa yeah It’s rough. We can only fight for our own little niches, and hang tight with the nerds and artists in our midst.
@rafa 1000% with you on this. Need to reclaim tech somehow.
@rafa I feel you. I had to rediscover what made building software fun for me and go all in on that and ignore most of the rest 😅

@rafa same here…but I’ll try to keep doing what I always did: build cool things that follow my philosophy and moral code because I want to.

There’s still people out there that can appreciate them, I’m sure of it. 😊

@rafa you're not wrong, I dumped the industry for this reason and I couldn't be happier. I'm a geek, I love programming (and cybersec and a bunch of other tech stuff) and still do it for fun and research, but not for profit. Not saying it's the solution for everyone...but it is always an option!
@rafa Man… I’ve lost it all. I keep trying to care, to muster up new strength to start new projects and it’s just become increasingly so difficult.
