The solution to climate change is to dismantle what causes it, and that’s the exploitation of developing countries by wealthier ones; and the exploitation of our resources to make line go up
Once Ms Thunberg moved on from “climate change is bad and we should do something” to “climate change is bad and THIS is what we should be doing”, suddenly the media isn’t a big fan of activism
Hélder Câmara knows the feeling. “When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why they are poor, they call me a communist”
@yassie_j I remember when she started I was very pessimistic, like "poor girl, they are pretending to listen to her by inviting her to everything and shut down her movement, I hope she is smarter than that but she's too young".
And then she went from "the system is broken and must be fixed" to "the system is working exactly as intended and must be destroyed" in like 1/4 of the time it took most of us to understand it.
This is ALSO true of Malala Yousafzai, who was celebrated as a champion for the education of girls and women worldwide. She became an icon because she almost sacrificed herself for doing something that should be common for any girl to do.
However, you will NEVER hear about the fact that Ms Yousafzai has used her international platform to speak out against global poverty, the chilling horror of US drone strikes, and against capitalism. In fact, she herself is aware of how the media in the west portrays her, saying that she is “no western puppet”.
What the media will not tell you is that Malala is a full-blown socialist, having said “I am convinced Socialism is the only answer and I urge all comrades to take this struggle to a victorious conclusion. Only this will free us from the chains of bigotry and exploitation”.
@yassie_j Reminds me of Martin Luther King. The story we hear today is so fucking whitewashed and stripped of anything that might cause offense to the capitalist hellhole we built for ourselves it's a disgrace to his legacy.
He was a socialist fighting for a guaranteed livable state income for everyone to eradicate poverty. He was assassinated when planning a march on Washington for that cause.
The whitewashed version of his story ends at the Civil Rights Act. It's laughably transparant, yet I doubt many Americans know. The whitewashing has been institutional and extremely thorough.
Near as my gradeschool teachers taught it, the meek and mild MLK died for my ancestors' sins like a Civil Rights Jesus and now all us white folks are cleansed of racism. /s
@yassie_j it's also true of Vanessa Nakate who stood alongside Greta Thunberg but few mentioned her (and plenty of media outlets cropped them out) because she wasn't a white European.

@yassie_j I wish this were true, but as a Pakistani and as someone with friends who know Malala irl, I can tell you Malala is not a comrade. She has no connection to left-wing movements in Pakistan (or internationally afaict).
Her primary work on education is done through an INGO that is financed by the likes of Bill Gates & Tim Cook. She is also literally friends with Hillary Clinton and is producing a Broadway play with her...
IMO present-day Malala is nowhere near as radical as Greta.
@yassie_j greta has gone woke!!!
(Always has been)
@yassie_j lets just say so did her support...
Had she stayed eith #SystemChangeNotClimateChange, she'd have way more support...
@yassie_j fwiw, I've seen this pointed out before.
(...and once again, we need citizen-owned news-sources.)
@yassie_j
This is a very good point that most haven't noticed.
When an organization is managed through chaos and confusion. The #empressario and bootlickers suck up all the media attention with the crisis du jour and invented crisises. Hey, 👀 over here.
There NO space or time for identifying real problems and sharing the limelight with other problem solvers and analysis.
