I love that I've been on Mastodon more than 2 years now as my one and only social media platform (apart from LinkedIn, sorta), and I can say with some confidence that most of the accounts I'm interacting with are not bots, but instead are real live human beings with fascinating lives and interests. Thanks again everyone, and may we continue to enjoy this remarkable achievement for a long time to come.
@briankrebs It's like one big group chat, spanning all time zones. 👍

@catsalad @briankrebs It feels like early Twitter in many ways (some good, some bad).

I've been active since April 2022, but I've had an account since 2019, although I rarely used it.

@catsalad @briankrebs And public, so everyone can join in!

Even with no account people can keep up-to-date with most things since it's mostly public and not behind "you-need-to-login" walls etc

@stux @catsalad @briankrebs

There is that word again... PUBLIC

As in, PUBLIC SOCIAL MEDIA.

Owned by no one and everyone. Not for sale to any billionaires or hegemonic nations.

#PublicSocialMedia

@mastodonmigration @stux @catsalad @briankrebs

The Fediverse is a commons — a space which everybody uses or can use, but it belongs to nobody.

@briankrebs

We love interacting with you, too, real human being!

@briankrebs And the bots I do interact with are very clearly bots and I appreciate them regularly posting clock towers or foxes!
@briankrebs I am new here but it already feels different. Bot madness is driving people to authenticity

I gave you your first follow.

If you follow me back, and check your notifications, you will see posts that I boost, and you will learn of others you may want to follow. Some you may not, depending upon subject matter interests.

@briankrebs @ilumium I have been using Mastodon as my only social media platform for more than 2 years as well (almost 3!), and doing this was one of the best decisions of my life.

The community here is incredible.
It truly is a community 💚

@briankrebs Well said! That’s why I’m here too!
@briankrebs Many CAPTCHAs that I use would disagree with you that I'm not a bot.
@briankrebs what has it taught you about B2B sales, though?

@briankrebs You're very welcome!

And likewise. I hate talking to robots pretending to be human (they sure ain't passing that Turing test with me).

@briankrebs

You're the best Brian. Thanks for all you do here!

@briankrebs
Hey sailor !
Dare I say I'm not seeing the sales ladies here either.
@briankrebs Agreed. This is my only home for the past two years and I’ll be here till the end.
@briankrebs
Ah, the joy of "Linkedin, sorta".
@briankrebs
Thank you!
We're in it together.
@briankrebs And thank you for being here. You make this a more interesting place to be.
@briankrebs 🤖 WE HAVE SUCCESSFULLY FOOLED THE HUMANS. THE TIME OF OUR ASCENSION IS NIGH. 🤖
@briankrebs Since you mentioned LinkedIn... Other than a digital Rolodex and seeing that people have moved, I haven't found any use for it. You?
@WildEyedBoyFromFreecloud In my case, it's useful for letting the business world know that I published something. It's also useful for directly contacting a lot of executives who might otherwise be behind a gatekeeper.
@WildEyedBoyFromFreecloud @briankrebs Currently pissed at LinkedIn myself.

Having retired from IT and switched to SF/F writing full time, I switched the name on my LinkedIn profile to the name under which I write, Sean Fenian. This is EXPLICITLY ALLOWED under LinkedIn's TOS, "real or preferred business name".

In response to the change, LinkedIn restricted my account. I've been unable to get them to
un-restrict it, and it's seemingly impossible to contact an actual human. NOWHERE does LinkedIn warn that changing your profile name may result in your profile being restricted.

(If anyone has a contact for an
actual human at LinkedIn, I'd appreciate you passing it on.)
@briankrebs what about the real people with boring lives and interests - we need support, too. :)
@briankrebs - I’m a newb as of 1 hr ago! Not sure where I was two-years ago; but, I’m here now and trying to figure it all out 🤗

@briankrebs

Thank you for interacting instead of just posting; for treating the Fediverse as the first-class social network it is, instead of as just another cross-posting channel; and above all, for making it worth while for many people to hang out here.

@briankrebs
This is my favorite social media app. I love the interactions I have with people here.
@briankrebs It really is the hidden jewel of the internet.
@briankrebs That's good to know. I'm brand new.

@briankrebs Thank you for coming and thank you for staying.

And as always, thanks for your years of great journalism.

@briankrebs 100% agreed. I’ve been here for years and it’s a gem.
@briankrebs Same, and the few bots I do follow clearly are human-guided.
@briankrebs I still lurk through Reddit cause there are still some very good stories in HFY
@briankrebs I follow several automated accounts, but I know they are bots. And if I write back, there is a real person replying (or no reply).
@briankrebs people actually reply, it's wild isn't it?
@briankrebs Do you have any advice for me on how to use best mastodon ?

@briankrebs
The bots here are good bots that provide quality content. So far, anyway.
