While googling around some perfectly normal peripherals I ran into this monstrosity. Ridiculous, but I do keep coming back to look at it.

Hyper7 R4

@paul ain’t nobody got the desk space for that!
@paul 1) expensive 2) looks like it belongs at a NASA command center
@Amdev probably close to $1k if you get a proper set of Space Cadet keycaps for it.
@paul now I just need an excuse to get this…
@paul the elusive 120% layout
@joshhunt @paul actually 173% according to the specs 🤯
@paul What in the Starfield am I looking at?! 😂
@paul LOL. It looks like a Yamaha CS80 🤣
@paul do it and never have to remember a key combo again
@NotTheLBCGuy @paul wait EACH KEY is over £100 ?!?
@fabienmarry @paul what? I don’t know where you’re getting that from
@NotTheLBCGuy that page made it look like they sold each keycap and switch. I guess it’s selling the whole set.
@fabienmarry yeah, it’s £60 for the whole set of caps and £34+ for enough switches for the whole board. The caps are actually a lot cheaper than when I built my Hyper7.
@paul It’s a beautiful monstrosity.
@paul Finally a keyboard sized to look proportioned next to modern wide displays

@paul It exudes nostalgia. The size. The layout. The keycap captions! Nearly irresistible.

Give me custom keycaps or OLED keycaps for the non-core keys, and I think I would reflexively order it, at up to 5x the price.

@paul Will go nicely with my Steel Battalion controller
@paul lol, it has a "FUN" key, I wonder what it does.
@paul completely impractical, and yet… 🤔
@paul this doesn’t fit in my suitcase FYI
