What are you watching?

How is everyone starting the new year - drama-wise?

*** Watch Parties ***
- The Imperial Coroner: great #cdrama funny & interesting.
- When the Stars Gossip: (airing) just watched the 1st episode - so funny & strange

*** Airing ***
- When the Phone Rings: 1 eps to go - lots of mystery has been fun

- Love Scout: Just watched the 1st eps. - very engaging

- Check in Hanyang: binged 1st 4 eps. - pretty funny (running a Joseon resort like "King the Land" sort of thing)

*** Others ***
- Empress Ki: slow going because I just know it's not going to end like I want it to.

- Eulachacha Waikiki 2: stupid humor, but on a Kim Seon Ho quest - good when there's too much tension elsewhere

- Where Stars Land: on my Chae Soo Bin (When the Phone Rings) quest - interesting to see the workings of the airport.

Oh, I hadn't heard about The Imperial Coroner yet, perhaps it'd be a nice first historical cdrama for me. Growing up I used to hear almost only about ancient China and not about modern day there, so the contemporary dramas caught much more my attention at first, as it was all very new to me.

I'm watching:
- Meet Yourself #cdrama - I started watching it long ago and I'm really loving it, so peaceful and the friendships are so heartwarming, I wish I lived with them too 😁 But perhaps due to the slower pace and it not using much hooks for the next ep., I'm going very slowly.

- Flower of Evil - Started a rewatch after I recommended it to a friend. He liked the 1st ep. but hasn't commented since, I'm starting to get worried lol But anyway, I really like thrillers (that friend too), I need to see more dramas of this genre.

After this rewatch I was thinking about starting A Time Called You, but more suggestions would be nice.

@brianch @whoosh The Imperial Coroner is a hidden gem. Wang Ziqi really came into his own in that drama.

@Sollenbum @brianch

It is, isn't it? Really fun with great characters.

#cDrama #TheImperialCoroner

@whoosh @brianch Absolutely! It has humour and the characters seem to have an inner life even though some of them are played for laughs.

@brianch

"Flower of Evil" is rising to the top of my To-Watch list - it looks really good.

#kDrama #FlowerOfEvil

@whoosh @brianch
You haven't seen it yet?? It's amazing. And disturbing.
@whoosh Oh yes, Watch Flower of Evil. It’s good! @brianch

@whoosh Oh, I'm so surprised you haven't seen it yet, it's indeed very good!

I'll love to read your impressions when you get to watch it :)

@whoosh @brianch Absolutely to watch! It's the #kdrama that got me addicted to the genre!

#FlowerOfEvil

Wrapping up When the Phone Rings, and will probably continue with The Judge from Hell after that. I don't think I'll start a new one for now though, so much non kdrama stuff to do 😭

@devgard.bsky.social

I hope you enjoy "The Judge from Hell" as much as I did!

Finding kDrama time can be tough!

@whoosh

I finished #WhenThePhoneRings yesterday and it's probably the worst last episode in #kdrama history. A well deserved WTF 😶‍🌫️😄

Currently watching:
1️⃣ #Namib
It's so hard to wait for new episodes! It's the story of a k-pop producer who gets fired without severance pay and an 18 yo trainee whose contract gets revoked.
2️⃣ #RentedInFinland
A #kshow with Cha Eun-woo (True Beauty, Astro), Kwak Dong-hyeon (Queen Of Tears), Lee Dong-hwi (Reply 1988) and Lee Jee-hon (producer).

@s1m0n4 @whoosh Aaaargh! Is it enough of a wtf to not start watching it altogether? Or do you still recommend it, despite the last episode?
@dikgelukkig @whoosh it's hard to answer because it depends on personal taste. For me it was ok with red flags until the last episode. Now I'm disappointed and I feel I wasted my time.
But keep in mind that I'm quite polarised myself, I can easily love or hate something.
And I don't cope well with BS even if it's from very popular k-dramas, like, for instance, the goodbye scene from Crash Landing On You. WTPR last episode has a similar vibe but even more made up, TBH.

@s1m0n4 @whoosh hmmm, ok …

I don’t remember that scene from CLOY, so that was apparently fine by me at the time 😆

I had a bit of a bad aftertaste with Flower Of Evil. Not necessarily with the ending itself, but I thought everybody acted so uncharacteristically in the last two episodes, that I had that wtf reaction.

So I’ll think about When The Phone Rings … Thanks for the feedback!

@s1m0n4 @whoosh oh, and the feeling of having wasted your time – I had that recently with ‘Eve’.

Intriguing revenge story but towards the end they totally messed up (in my opinion). I wanted to stop watching immediately after that, but by then I also wanted to know how it ended. So I kept watching, but with a lot of grumbles ☹️😁

@dikgelukkig @whoosh I agree for Flower Of Evil. Last episode was absolutely unnecessary and a bit WTF too. Still I didn't have the feeling of wasted time because everything before that was so incredibly thrilling.

The last episode of WTPR is worse than that, because they make up an implausible plot entirely.

As for CLOY I am talking about the scene at the DMZ line during last episode (or the one before the last) when they say goodbye to each other.

2️⃣ #RentedInFinland
The 4 city boys are sent in desolated Lapland rental places 🇫🇮 without electricity and tap water.
It's hilarious and I have a newly found admiration for Kwak Dong-hyeon.

3️⃣ Abyss. I'm halfway through the first episode. The cast is awesome.

@s1m0n4 @whoosh I'm watching Rented in Finland too and feel much like you do. It's the reality show I never knew I needed.
@QueenOfCoffee @whoosh It's so good! Even my husband, who isn't so interested in k-contents as I am, tags along for #rentedinfinland
#kshow #kdrama
@s1m0n4 @whoosh Kwak Dong-Yeon had definitely made me a fan. He always plays goofy characters like in Vincenzo and Queen of Tears, but he's quite type A. I like it.
@QueenOfCoffee @whoosh Absolutely! The difference between his real personality and the characters he's interpreting made me a fan too 😍.
Cha Eun-woo is quite surprising too! You can see he grew up in a wealthy family, but he's funny and hardworking.

@s1m0n4 @QueenOfCoffee

I loved the Wooga squad "Friendcation" even though it was super mellow.

I keep seeing ads for "Rented in Finland" & I like all those actors, so with your recommendation, I'm adding it to the To-Watch list.

#kDrama #RentedInFinland

@whoosh @s1m0n4 JeHoon cooking eggs is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. You've chosen wisely.
@whoosh @QueenOfCoffee yay! You won't be disappointed, I promise 😉

@whoosh

Hmm, taking things slow as I have started my reading challenge.

Watched up to and including episode 2 of #SquidGame season 2

Still working my way through #TheTrunk

Going to let a few more episodes air before watching #WhenTheStarsGossip

Rewatching #GuardianTheLonelyAndGreatGod aka Goblin

@KDramaQn

My reading has gone by the wayside. I set a goal of at least 1 book a month for this year. We'll see.....

I have not been brave enough to start "Squid Game"

So far the 1st 2 eps. of "When the Stars Gossip" (Ask the Stars) have been so bizarrely hilarious that I'm not sure what to say about it.

#kDrama

@whoosh @KDramaQn I have watched (most of) the first two episodes of WTSG as well, and I like it so far. (That's a rare thing, I usually need to suffer through at least the first 2–3 episodes until I start to like a series.) I dislike how the main conflicts do seem too obvious already, but maybe I'm being intentionally mislead and will be surprised later on.
I did like Gong Hyo-jin in the two series I've seen her (Pasta and Camellia), and so far she hasn't disappointed here either.
@KDramaQn @whoosh
You have some good ones there! Not my favourite but I watched #TheTrunk in a single sitting so it captured my interest. I suppose I'll eventually see what the Squid Game fuss is about. Goblin is a fascinating story.
I LOVED the first 2 episodes of #WhenTheStarsGossip!! It's far too silly to be taken very seriously but as is often the case, it's layered and there's serious intermixed with the silly. LMH is a delight!

@whoosh
I had a bunch stuck unfinished in my Currently Watching, so i declared bankruptcy on all but one: the #ThaiDrama version of #ALoveSoBeautiful. And then still haven't watched more episodes. 😅

With Spouse, we are on 17/52 of the #cdrama #NirvanaInFire (first watch for him)

I am on 8/16 of the #kdrama #YouAreMySpring.

@JillsJoy

"You Are My Spring." is on my To-watch list.

I didn't like the Korean version of "A Love So Beautiful" very much.

@whoosh @JillsJoy my wife and I are working through The Princess Royal and Only For Love. I’m working through The Legend of Anle and Love Song in Winter.

I haven’t tried the remakes of A Love So Beautiful because I can’t imagine anyone else in the roles

@whoosh I had the linked #reading project occupying my December, so now that's done, I'm back into #CDrama "Interlaced Scenes" an interesting murder mystery with a surprising number of faces familiar to me from "The Tale of Rose" After that, my remaining PTW, which is roughly 50% #CDrama and 50% #KDrama while waiting to see if I can access #TWDrama "I'm Married But"

@whoosh

So far, watching :

#Kdrama. Squid Game 2. Then likely Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born. Both from last quarter of 2024.

#Cdrama. Strange Tales Of The Tang Dynasty (2022) rewatching, leading next to Strange Tales Of The Tang Dynasty II To The West (2024). Maybe followed by Riverside Code At Quingming Festival that aired in December 2024, with Zhou Ye Wei (a fave).

@whoosh I just finished watching ‘Tell me what you saw’ (2020). Thriller with plenty of violence and graphic scenes, so it was quite intense.

Before that I watched ‘Eve’ (2022). I loved the premise of the show and the first half of it, but imo the writers really messed up the rest of the storyline.
