My wife signed up for Apple News and I saw the charge for $13/month, holy crap that's expensive. I went and looked at the Apple bundle plan to see if that'd be cheaper and đŸ˜±.

@paul when i was subscribed to apple music i'd get automated emails like "hey, you'll save money if you bundle your icloud+ and apple music!"

and i'd go and check and it'd always be more expensive

every time.

@paul wait until you learn that it’s the same in Germany and we dont even have Apple News here.
@paul definitely eyebrow raising but worth it if you’ve got people to share it with. I like it because I can manage the subscriptions my parents use and make sure they don’t sign up for stuff they shouldn’t.
@paul the bundle is a good deal. I wish they would offer a sort of “senior” plan that wouldn’t include Arcade and Fitness+, which our family do not care about.
@paul this is the one we've paid for since day one. I come and go on Fitness+ but the rest is a great deal IMO. Arcade even has Balatro right now! We were already paying for Apple Music and 2TB so essentially broke even.
@paul A friend just asked me if Apple News+ was worth it as a subscription and I said nope. It’s a weak service with really horrible ad integration. I only use it because I subscribe to Apple One and share that with my parents and one of my aunts. Otherwise, I’d pass.
@paul It’s probably a pretty good deal *IF* you actively use a few of those services. We’re a household of 6, all using Apple Music (on our phones&carplay and on all our Amazon Alexas), sharing the 2TB of space (backups, etc). Some of us use TV+ and News+. We’ve dabbled in Fitness+. The kids play some of the games in Arcade (or used to, when they were a bit younger). So, yeah, it's a decent chunk-a-change, but IF you actively use the services (like we do), I'd say it's a good deal.
@paul for news music tv and iCloud this makes sense?
@paul When I originally signed up for Premier I had checked and it was the same price as iCloud 2TB, Music and TV+ a la carte which I wanted, so getting the other stuff with it was the bonus. Haven't checked recently tho
@paul cries in European where I pay US Apple One for TV+/Arcade/full Music library and then also have to pay a separate EU iCloud Storage plan to share with my family.
@paul I would argue that Ted Lasso alone is worth it.
@paul We pay the same price in Germany and don't even get News+ (or anything comparable)

@paul

It sort of boils down to getting one of the services ‘free’ compared to ala carte pricing, except complicated by how much iCloud storage you need. And with one of those ‘services’ perhaps being a thing you would ‘never pay for, it end up ‘breaking even’, maybe?

So I bet I am far from the only one just buying ‘Apple One’ out of ‘fuck, I don’t even want to think about this anymore, just gimme the full hairball’

I’d gladly trade the ‘service I don’t really want’ for more iCloud storage.

@paul I wish Costco still sold the Apple News annual subscriptions. If I’m going to pay for news, I’d rather pay for a bundle of multiple sources like Apple News has. But $13 is too much when compared to what I consume, and how much TV costs to make on streaming services that cost less.

I could justify the annual cost more easily.

@paul shocking, considering News has ads

@paul
It “pays” off with six family members who have different interests, plus gets them to back up their devices rather than just “eh nah.”

It’s the way I read Edge magazine, even though I pay for it in print, because the small thin font is too brutal.

@paul I been paying for this for a family of 6 but half of those are in a country that doesn’t support most of those services so I cancelled it.
