So… #Sugarmate just stopped working a couple days ago - logged me out and I can’t log in on the app or the website. I checked the App Store and it’s not listed anymore… WTF 🤔

I prefer(red) that app because it is (was?) the only one of the 3 I use(d) (Dexcom, t:connect) that actually shows a +/- rate, which SHOULD be standard.

BLARGH!

@VTDARKSIM I haven’t used Sugarmate in a while, but I still see it on the app store updated 8 hours ago. Getting back into it seems to be working. Looks like the UI is rewritten though.

My app of choice, though, is Shuggah. If you haven’t looked at this, or haven’t since before this year, you might take a look at it again. I’m using it with my Tandem Mobi and G7 and it sends to Nightscout, along with tconnectsync putting data in nightscout, so the insulin stuff gets into Shuggah as well.

@bedast oooh that’s interesting. I’ve been screaming into the void for years re: the absence of a singular app that (auto) captures BG, t:slim insulin, & - preferably but less important - exercise. It’s been mind boggling this hasn’t been developed.

I saw Nightscout a while back but deterred by its unintuitive-ness. I think at the time I opened the app & was prompted for my site? Didn’t know what that was & didn’t have the time to research. I’ll follow up. Any recommended resources?

@VTDARKSIM While there are nightscout apps, that’s not what nightscout is. These are apps to connect to nightscout, which is a hosted service. There’s a way to get free hosting set up though. I have mine hosted from my homelab.

It’s not super intuitive and their documentation is kinda bad for newbies and less technical people. I have a couple of guides designed to get you up and running for free but not one covering Dexcom+tandem. I might write one up this weekend.

It’s a bit of a complicated setup unfortunately. But can be pretty hands off once it’s running.

@bedast I’m not averse to some custom configs; I’ve got all sorts of smart automations for my home through #homebridge on a #RPi, and have some limited programming (VBA, R, Python) knowledge. That said I don’t do it at all for work so it’s only as an occasional hobby. I’d still classify myself as a newbie but not necessarily unfamiliar.

@bedast so I spent the better part of the day trying to set this up and I’m about to put my fist through the screen.

I got accounts set up for #Heroku, #MongoDB, #GitHub, and even tracked down my #Tandem and GitHub access tokens, but I cannot for the life of me get any of the Nightscout connectors setup on my #linux machine to self-host.

*screams into void*

Why is this so GD difficult?!

@VTDARKSIM How are you attempting to run it?

There’s some initial setup for things like MongoDB, but once that’s done, everything should just work with the right configs in place, when using Docker. I’m using Docker, myself. Only 3 containers should be needed (MongoDB, Nightscout, tconnectsync).

The documentation from Nightscout is hit or miss…mostly miss.

If you use discord at all, I can offer some easier help.

@bedast I am admittedly a Linux novice, so that’s definitely part of the struggle. My understanding is the data flow is:

CGM > Dexcom G7 app > Dexcom cloud > Nightscout-connect > Nightscout
pump > t:connect app > Tandem portal > tconnectsync > Nightscout

Nightscout > MongoDB > Heroku?

But… I’m probably missing something obvious, like docker. That’s not in my equation.

@VTDARKSIM If you’re self hosting then heroku shouldn’t be involved. It’s just a way to host nightscout if you don’t already have another option.

It’s possible I’m misunderstanding what you’re trying to do though.

If you’re not self hosting and looking to host online, I’d suggest northflank over heroku as heroku no loger offers free hosting. I have a guide that should get you up and running on northflank here:

https://www.beausteward.com/projects/diabetes-content/dexcom-to-nightscout/

This doesn’t include tconnectsync but you should have enough open hosting there to add it as a docker deployment.

Dexcom G6 & G7 To Nightscout

This process requires using Dexcom’s Follow feature for the Nightscout Connect addon to function. Make sure you have a working follower that you plan to use with this. You can use the Dexcom app to set yourself as a follower. Northflank This will be made possible using a service called Northflank . Unlike other methods, we will not need Github nor MongoDB Atlas. Everything will be contained within Northflank. Northflank has a free offering, where you are allowed one free project per account.

@bedast I’ve got a Linux box that’s always hardwired so I thought I’d give self-hosting a shot. I’ve never done it though so I’m learning as I go. I really just want to get all the info in one place so I can tinker with the variables and see if I can do something to optimize my basal rates and ratios. Ideally it would be nice to have this available on the go, too.

@VTDARKSIM Ah, then, if you have a place to put it, heroku, northflank, mongodb atlas, etc, are not required.

Give me a bit and I’ll see if I can get something thrown together to get this up and running using Docker Compose in Linux. I’ve been meaning to write something up for a while anyway.

@bedast thank you, sir. No rush - it's been on my to do list for a few years anyhow!
@bedast and thank you, I’ll give that a look and see if i can put it to good use!
@bedast you’re right, I just looked for Sugarmate again and it’s back on the App Store. They must have pulled it to revamp it. I had to reset my password and cut down its length but at least I’m back in now. I’ll look at Shuggah too once I finish my exams this weekend.
