I am resisting in place. I won’t march, and I already hold public office, it’s called Public Librarian. I make queer and trans people feel at home and change their name in the catalog and if my coworkers change it back, I change it again. I make rainbow brochures and when they get stolen and trashed I make more. I put book challenge info on the website. I’m safe zone trained and in the trenches. We may need extra funding soon so please remember and support us.

@jillrhudy thank you !! Yes to pushing back against queerphobia locally wherever we can ❤️ it's effective!
@jillrhudy Thank you for what you do. Your public office is one of the most important imo
@jillrhudy Thank you for your service.
@jillrhudy thank you. Fight the good fight.

@jillrhudy Keep on being an important person in those folks lives. My late wife was a teen librarian and when she passed in April her memorial was filled with her teen patrons and their parents sharing how much she meant to them and how safe and included she made them feel.

It's a tough job and important. Stay strong.

@jillrhudy
I like that! A lot! Getting it out there, getting people interested, then hooked. Good job!
@jillrhudy
It's a rurn on, knowing you are doing this! I hope thousands of others are, too. I'd like to see EVERYONE effected.
And, INFECTED.
With pure lust...
@jillrhudy Thank you.
@erosdiscordia yw. If we all do a little it adds up to a lot.
@jillrhudy @erosdiscordia Is it true that libriarians keep some books on paranoia near the front desk? So if some one comes in and asks for one, you can lean over and whisper: “They are right behind you”
@jillrhudy Heroic. I am a white cisgender older male and I'm pro-freedom and anti-censorship. Just been reading _That Librarian_ ( Amanda Jones, Bloomsbury 2024). It's a hard but necessary story. I also visit my local library regularly. Librarians are the *best*.
@lemgandi I love that book. I just connected with Amanda over on BlueSky
@jillrhudy Saw her talk at a book fair. She's a fireball!
@jillrhudy You’re a great role model. Thank you for creating a safe zone.

@jillrhudy

You are a hero the calibre of they who run the underground railway and smuggled Jews out from Nazi occupation.

I see you.

@n_dimension there is this tunnel under my church that dates from 1864 that was definitely used for something. Maybe I should stash some blankets under there before choir practice if someone will show me where the secret entrance is. You know, just in case.

@jillrhudy

I know you jest, but I think that it might become useful under Трамп.

Couple of 2nd blankets.
A gallon of water, some sardine cans in a bucket.

At worst some homeless person may enjoy a night of full belly.
At worst folk on the run from Трамп purity police may find a refuge there before the next hop to Canada or Mexico.

@jillrhudy @SynapticRewrite librarians and libraries are punk AF. Y'all rock.

@jillrhudy

Just so you know, you'd eat and drink at my house for free

@ThePowerNap where do you live i’m starving. Just kidding; that info isn’t safe to post!
@jillrhudy ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

@jillrhudy You are a true ally. Have librarians talked about what to do if ICE tries to check all the brown people and arrest some?

You could give out red cards with what to do. Some states have hotline numbers to volunteer lawyers too. Librarians are in a good position to video the whole interaction

Red cards are generic, available in many languages. You can make your own with the text.

CLASP
@3x10to8mps I will absolutely ask about this.
@3x10to8mps They seem to be sold out everywhere but if they are okayed I can design them on Canva and print and cut them.

@jillrhudy The Red Card organization has artwork ready to be printed out for free.

Here's the link to the artwork in English and many languages.

Maybe print out some other languages too, depending on who's in your community

https://www.ilrc.org/red-cards-tarjetas-rojas

Maybe display the Spanish version of the How to use your red card poster. It's a link in the middle of the page

It's time critical to get the info out to everyone. Thank you for helping!

Red Cards / Tarjetas Rojas | Immigrant Legal Resource Center | ILRC

All people in the United States, regardless of immigration status, have certain rights and protections under the U.S. Constitution. The ILRC’s Red Cards help people assert their rights and defend themselves in many situations, such as when ICE agents go to a home. Special thanks to our many partners who contributed translations in the various languages now available, making these red cards accessible to more individuals.

@3x10to8mps thank you. My parents’ caregivers are afraid which makes me *so angry.*

@jillrhudy Your folks could print out the poster and role play with them so they won't freak out if ICE stops them on the street. So they will have practiced staying calm and saying I don't want to answer questions and the rest of the right replies.

Plus it would make your folks feel like they're helping

I am so angry about all of this I can't see straight
