What your coffee says about the average #Linux user ...
@nixCraft Hey, mocapot here, ?
@Ihazchaos @nixCraft That's OpenBSD 4.x I operated back in the days without any init System at all. Coffee is made in a Bialetti since then ;)
@Ihazchaos @nixCraft Slackware? Old AF, dependable, delivers an experience born from a highly regarded culture, but still only dominates in traditionalist communities.
@nixCraft Linux from scratch use italian coffee makers? :)
@rtn
They grind their own beans
@nixCraft
@amael @rtn @nixCraft pfft, air popper roasting one’s own green coffee is truly the pinnacle of doing one’s coffee from scratch.
@rtn @cascheranno @amael @nixCraft pfft...I grow my own coffee and have a serval
@blade @rtn @amael @nixCraft (bows obsequiously). I just got defensive at mere grindage being like LFS. I’m a Debian/Mint level of Linux on desktop, I own a grinder, and I stopped homebrewing beer when the breadth and variety became epic (1996). I like to know what’s up, know I can, etc, but enjoy the quality expertise delivers.
@blade @rtn @amael @nixCraft oh, hell no… took me a moment circling back now to see you mentioned servals. Poo beans. (Golf clap) well-played
@amael @rtn @nixCraft which is funny because I grind by hand and use a La Pavoni lever action espresso machine but my distro (Regolith) is based on Ubuntu because I can't be wrestling with my computer when I have work to do.
@nixCraft that's sooooo wrong ... there's not even an Aeropress in there ..(which obviously be the Gentoo user..)
@krisbuytaert @nixCraft Aeropress would be SUSELinux, wouldn't it? Highly commercial and somewhere between Ubuntu and Fedora with regard to hand holding?
@nixCraft So a cafetiere, far simpler than any of those (and with no waste), indicates a Windows user?
@TimWardCam @nixCraft where exactly is this idea of equating windows and no-waste coming from?
@cascheranno @nixCraft I was really only saying that with a cafetiere you don't have any single-use filters to throw away which some of the illustrated methods needed. I'm not sure it follows through terrible well to operating system choice, which is why that bit is in brackets.
@TimWardCam @nixCraft reading the other subthreads, maybe you’re using Docker. And win is art dent’s ’not entirely unlike tea’.
@cascheranno @nixCraft I have used Docker on occasion, though not (knowingly) at home (I don't know what happens inside the #HomeAssistant OS, I just treat it as a black box). And if I have to use Docker I prefer it wrapped in Kubernetes. And actually I'd rather just write application code and let the BOFH types worry about deployment ... sadly I don't always get my way on that one.
@nixCraft Wonder what the AeroPress would be.
@nixCraft hmm… ?
@Zipkid @nixCraft The Moka pot is a continental European institution. So maybe OpenSUSE?
@Newde @nixCraft In the nineties i did use Suse for a while indeed.
Nowadays mostly Debian.
@Newde @Zipkid @nixCraft Was thinking the same. Thats my setup here. Moka pot and OpenSUSE.
@Newde @Zipkid @nixCraft not only that. If you use the aluminium Moka pot, then Tumbleweed, but if you, like me, use the inox one, then Leap
@nixCraft LFS (Linux from Scratch): Just eats the coffee beans directly
@catsalad @nixCraft that would be slackware maybe
lfs you get a tutorial on how to grow coffee plants
@catsalad @nixCraft I grow my own Coffee beans from homemade genetically engineered supercoffee. I use bsd
@catsalad @nixCraft My former coworker had a scale, a thermometer and a timer so he could control precisely how much water went through his coffee grounds within one minute…
@catsalad @nixCraft then pours boiling hot water down throat
@nixCraft This is surprisingly accurate :D Ubuntu it is, with my nice automatic coffee machine :P

@nixCraft Wouldn't know coffee is undrinkable - tea is far better...!

@drajt @nixCraft Ah, so you're a BSD user.
@nixCraft I usually drink tea. What does that say about me?
@perry @nixCraft you might like Solaris
@cybertailor @nixCraft haven't tried it yet, currently running NixOS, though. Should I try it? It's highly unlikely that I switch, but it might be fun.

What are Solaris' most distinguishing features?

@perry @nixCraft

Should I try it?

Probably no, it is half-dead since Sun Microsystems was bought by Oracle.

As for features, everyone praises ZFS filesystem and stuff like DTrace, though they have been ported for Linux and BSDs.

And that it came installed with Sun workstations.

@nixCraft RHEL. One spoon of instantaneous coffee & hot water and you are ready to go.
@horaciodos @nixCraft ready fast, but just a little dead inside.
@nixCraft Not pictured: Windows users lining up at Starbucks, saying preparing your own coffee at home is for nerds and too complicated for most drinkers.
@julienbarnoin @nixCraft
Are Appleusers then people who order coffee home?
@julienbarnoin @nixCraft windows is the corporate-supplied pod machine at the office.

@nixCraft Cafetière or Stempelkanne (just love the German, lit. "stamp pot") user here, mostly because it holds more than a mugful.

I use Arch BTW! 😆

@nixCraft I dislike coffee. What distro am I using?
@nixCraft I'm an Arch and V60 user, hah.
@nixCraft where are French Press and Aeropress ? ^^

@nixCraft

Instant cofee users... Android

@nixCraft would be a nice experiment, to tie a coffee preparation method to a distro in order of complexity, force the respective users to take their coffee that way, and see how many would switch distro just to be able to drink coffee differently
@nixCraft Yup, accurate. (I use arch btw)
@deltarays @nixCraft dito, same with me (i use also arch btw)
@nixCraft I drink Arch, have a Fedora in the kitchen cabinet too, used to distribute Gentoo (which is mirrored by the way). But my machines run Ubuntu, because I'm too lazy to change distros. 😁
@nixCraft What if I don't drink coffee and prefer mate and battery acid to get my caffeine?
@jpziller Unlike HURD, I function. It's sad, because I wish HURD went somewhere, and I could use a proper GNU operating system.
@nixCraft Having a Hario, a Chemex, a French Press, a Vietnamese Phin filter, an Aero Press, a classic Espresso machine and a Moka pot of course... what does that make me? :'D
