The Netherlands, one of the wealthiest countries on earth, is letting asylum seekers sleep outside because our government wants to create the illusion we have an "asylum crisis" so they can enact emergency legislation that will bypass the Lower House and Senate - effectively giving them full control.

The current secretary of immigration overseeing all of this? A literal, self-admitted nazi who supports and spreads the great replacement fable.

That's what my country has come to. Almost 500 years of progress towards a more perfect society down the drain - not from forces without, but from traitors within.

Blow up the dykes, turn off the pumping stations, and let the sea swallow it all.

Perhaps I shouldn't seek Dutch citizenship for our kids. Perhaps such a stain I should not give them.

I feel so utterly conflicted and disillusioned with what's becoming of my little swamp. It hurts.

@thomholwerda It's a depressing thing to think about. Our baby was born in Denmark but has Dutch and French nationality.

I'm not in a hurry to get a Dutch passport. France, not necessarily fun either atm but at least not full blown fascism.

(if you're Dutch the children automatically got the Dutch nationality btw)

@os_sci Their voter base is still there.

Despite outer appearances the Netherlands has for generations been a very conservative country, open to self-centrism (search: pillarisation). There's a strong history of us vs. them, with "us" being the important one, and "them" only tolerated as long as there's no way around it.

@arjankroonen Oh yes. BBB = shit party and probably the most dishonest of all four. With BBB policies it is a certainty climate change won't be addressed and neither will biodiversity issues. Furthermore its ranks are filled with racists and they happily ignore that.

@macumbamacaca @thomholwerda i am all against "it's all personal choice", and people should go to protests and join organizations..

And being one person with a small influence is no excuse. Everyone can say that. But small influence _does_ mean it's totally fair to complain about it as if you have no control over it.
