I think it's probably a coin toss now. But at this point, no matter who takes office in January, I will never feel the same way about this country.

Never mind Dobbs. Never mind the insurrection and the racism and that he's an adjudicated rapist and the million other things that reaffirm that this country REALLY REALLY REALLY FUCKING HATES WOMEN.

Setting aside all that, I can't believe he's not now nor will he ever be in jail for this.

May every billionaire get what they deserve...

@kims as someone who fully went through that process in 2016 and never looked back, i’ll say the far scarier thing is what this night means for the rest of the world. i think civilization is well and fully over, we will not recover from what trump 2 will do to global climate policy or from putin being handed full license to do whatever he wants to europe
@cultdev my thoughts exactly.
feeling like only a fraction from 'game over'
so sorry for the very young who will suffer the most.
The real culprit is Elon #Musk who will be ruining the planet because we all let it happen that on person could become this rich.

@kims

Oh, they will. But the rest of us have to suffer too.

@kims same here. I never could have imagined there are so many horrible, hate-filled people in this country 😫
@kims I feel your pain. I’m in FL and everything I voted for was defeated.
@Doreen32128 @kims Doreen, can you get out of Florida?
@MiriShuli @kims No, I’m 78 years old, and my family lives here.
@Doreen32128 @kims Hugs Doreen! It will take a few more days before anything is decided. You will be okay. Pull your family around you and hunker down to take care of each other.
@kims my 13-year-old daughter and I are struck numb. I really thought better of Americans.

@kims
@Rory29

I wonder what reward Elmo will get for taking public square Twitter out of the equation.

@kims won't pretend to understand why America is called a democracy. The one thing I don't understand is it seems a lot of people who are voting to enshrine basic health rights for women at a state level are also voting Republican.
@felix @kims Lotta white women hate Black and Brown folks.
@textualdeviance @kims it's telling that on MSNBC (yes, I know) they're talking about "people voted for TFG cos they see him as strong on the economy". It's like they're not allowed to say the obvious thing. People voted for the fascist cos the people who voted support a fascist.
@kims You said it better than me, but same thought.
@kims Kim, I agree with you. I have kept some of my feelings to myself, but it’s time to tell my fellow American what I think of them. We must begin shunning those that deserve it.

@kims

It's 2028... Gas costs $8/gal; Bird Flu has wiped out fresh eggs; drought-stricken crops have shuttered farms across Wisconsin and Iowa; the Measles outbreak has spread beyond the internment camps in Arizona and Texas, and the CDC and HHS have been embarred from developing a vaccine; and the Republican-controlled House just blocked a spending bill, causing a government shutdown, because four years of corporate tax cuts have led to the largest budget shortfall in over a century, yet people *STILL* vote Red because, you know, "Lib-tards, L0L!" 😡

@kims @almondtree Correction put 'non-White' in front of women for accuracy. White women see things as gendered only. It's gendered and racialized. Sisterhood has a color line and we're seeing it tonight.
Kim Scheinberg (@[email protected])

The quadrennial ritual of answering the question: "How much do white men and women in the US hate women and Black people?" I know Lucy Van Pelt is the ultimate white woman, and I'm Charlie Brown believing that *this* year, the post-Dobbs year of our lord 2024, will be the year I get to kick the football. Yes, I know Lucy went 47-45 Trump in 2016 and 53-46 Trump in 2020. But *this* time, this time she's going to let me kick the ball and keep my bodily autonomy. I just know it...

@kims @almondtree

Sorry, I'm not smart enough to follow this reference.

My simple point was that gender and race intersect and it's usually the gender lens that White women use to explain most inequalities. Race is marginalized and not supported by White women who have a hard time seeing their own complicity in perpetuating inequalities against non-White women on race grounds.

@raindrops_and_roses @kims @almondtree

There's some academic research that supports the claim (link to paper is at the end of the article):
https://www.psypost.org/white-womens-trump-support-tied-to-racial-resentment-study-finds/

I feel I should add another link here to provide some context of exactly what is meant by racial resentment:
https://news.berkeley.edu/2022/02/03/racial-resentment-the-insidious-force-that-divides-america/

White women’s Trump support tied to racial resentment, study finds

Racial and gender attitudes were closely associated with women’s 2020 voting choices, with racial resentment linked to Trump support among white women and gender attitudes influencing decisions for Latina and Asian American women, highlighting diverse motivations among female voters.

@kims the USA can now stop referring to itself as the greatest country/democracy in the world
@kims as a Brit and someone who has had close relationships and friendships with American men, the difference in how they expect women to act is incredibly stark. It comes across as deeply ingrained, and a huge proportion of them don't even know they're doing it and aren't prepared to open their eyes (my apologies to the ones who do!)
@kims just noting that he spent like a solid 10k on the bathroom and was like oops forgot a wastebin so popped into a dollar store.
@kims
Ditto, even women hate women here. WTAF
