As long as a President maintains the loyalty of a core constituency of his own political party, there is now no remedy while he is in office or after he leaves office, to hold him accountable to the law, neither impeachment (which will fail to convict) or criminal prosecution for official acts (presumptive immunity).
Nothing to stop the President from conspiring to remain in office for life, save a military coup.
