Thanks for introducing me to Syed Hussein Alatas and the concept of the captive mind. Frantz Fanon also writes about the colonised's internalisation of the coloniser's values.
My own psychoanalytic training, over 30 years ago, did not include any thought of the legacies of colonialism, including the effects of racism in the UK. These are ideas that I've had to explore later. Nowadays, UK trainings that do not consider these issues would be considered seriously inadequate.
