Upgrading to Sequoia, for some reason, finally broke my old, pre-subscription use of Fantastical.

(It's not that I don't like the app… I'm just perfectly happy with the functionality of the old version and don't need any of the newer features.)

In completely unrelated news, I am not charging enough for my subscription.

@marcoarment Sequoia did the same for me. Deleting and re-downloading the app fixed things. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@marcoarment *whistles while listening to a one time payment version of overcast*
@marcoarment it might be the case that Fantastical, which frequently shows “in 85 minutes” for things in 5 minutes on my Lock Screen, is itself massively overcharging
@marcoarment yeah this happens periodically on new installs or upgrades. There's an activation step you might be able to rerun, otherwise I’ve found their support people are super responsive and helpful.
@marcoarment Overcast's prescription is perfect, what do you mean LOOK OVER THERE!
@marcoarment I had the same problem. Delete and reinstall fixes it. After that, the About box will say “Fantastical 2 features unlocked”.

@marcoarment Agree you are undercharging.

But if you do charge more (of which I will pay anyway), it would be great to have Shared Playlists so my wife can turn on a podcast for our kids at the point where we left off on my phone.

@marcoarment are you not charging enough or is everyone else slowly boiling the frog by raising subscription prices?

We simply can’t afford to “subscribe” to 30 different utilities

@marcoarment I have recently increased the price for Parcel from $3 to $5/year for existing subscribers (new subscribers were on $5 for years). I am still periodically getting emails asking to justify such a dramatic price increase 😆
@ivanpavlov you built a great app, I use it every day!
@marcoarment I believe that if you get the latest version and validate somehow you get all the features that existed in that pre-sub version.

@marcoarment I, for one, would pay more and think you should be charging at minimum 12/yr, but probably more.

But also damn Fantastical is expensive. I had to give up on it as I just can’t justify the expense over the Cal app.

@patrickhills @marcoarment Exactly the calculus one has to be careful about. The Apple podcast app is getting pretty good and it’s free.
@marcoarment happed to me but they said the MAS wasn’t validating the previous purchase or something. The latest update fixed it for me.
@marcoarment As someone who pays for both the Fantastical (Flexibits) Subscription, as well as yours, I can affirm that you are not charging enough for yours.
@marcoarment your mileage may vary but I test drove Apple calendar for a week before renewing fantasical and found it good enough and skipped the renewal

@marcoarment Even though Fantastical is my main calendar app I just use the free version.

I’d *quite like* some of the features but the price really demands you’d *love to have all* the features.

@marcoarment this is related to an undocumented change in Sequoia (i know, shocker). It causes the validation of old purchaes to fail at irregular intervals in ways that it never did before. As others have stated uninstalling amd reinstalling fixes it
@marcoarment
Fantastical is quite expensive and shouldn’t be viewed as a “normal” subscription price.
@freediverx @marcoarment Same feeling ... The pricing they went with specifically made me immediately move on from them.
@marcoarment That may be but they’re definitely charging too much for a calendar app.
@marcoarment Same for me with Fantastical. But think it was an update to the app that broke it. Been working fine until sometime last week on latest macOS

@marcoarment I think you probably aren’t charging enough. I’d definitely pay more for Overcast than you’re charging.

That said; I pay for Fantastical’s subscription and resent it *every* time it comes up. They’re one credible competitor away from losing my custom (even though it’s a great app and I’ve always had excellent customer support). At your current pricing, I don’t even look at other podcast players.

@marcoarment Overcast has been the same frustrating experience for many of us until maybe the latest update. 🤷

I also think you should charge more but what a frustrating experience this new version has been.

@marcoarment at a minimum you should add a @caseyliss style “Pay $ for this subscription” or “Pay $$$ for the exact same subscription”. Given the number of hours a year I listen to Overcast, I’d pay the $$$ for the sub (and angry customers wouldn't be forced to).

@atryanstavely @marcoarment @caseyliss This.

I, for one, would pay $20 / year for Overcast without hesitation, but I also can see how that might be too much for a lot of people.

@marcoarment when the heck will Apple add natural language to Calendar on iOS? I know it’s in Search/Spotlight or whatever, but what are they waiting for?
@marcoarment wouldn’t mind an increase. But adding family sharing for the subscription would be nice. Maybe I could convert a few more family members.
