Until a few centuries ago, most warriors and soldiers would have mocked the idea of mages wielding swords into battle, rather than relying on their arcane arts and knowledge.
Everything changed with the foundation of the Knights of Maangh, an exclusive order of spellcasters trained in the arts of the sword, able to channel their spells through a conduit of magic power to literally conjure a blade of pure mana.
Whoever faced them on the battlefield soon learned that swords made of magic energy are just as lethal as physical ones, if not ever more dangerous.

Then, he firmly clutched the sword in his right hand, and raised the arm, letting out a battlecry. Suddenly, an unnatural heat engulfed the battlefield, and as Wayland and his fellow soldiers descended upon the meadow, charging towards the enemy ranks, their eyes became filled with a crimson glow, while a single, deafening command echoed within their minds:
