@elementary I love the installation process of #ElementaryOS. Installing #Wine was also quite easy. I’m stuck trying to figure out if #AudioModelling #VST can be installed (and how to do this with #PlayOnLinux ) so that I can get virtual French Horns into #Bitwig on #Linux to make #ElectronicMusic
I have just today emailed #AudioModelling to ask if the, now more than 6 year old tutorial, on installing their #VSTi under #Wine v1.6 is still relevant. It’s a lovely document, but seems like it could be a bit out of date.
Has anyone used #Bottles for #Linux to install and run #VST plugins in #Bitwig ?
@ambientspace IIRC there was someone who mentioned that in the Yabridge Discord. Don't remember who it was though. You could ask there https://discord.gg/pyNeweqadf

@plaimbock @ambientspace to bad it will probably not work with the bitwig flatpak
@gozes @plaimbock also good to know. I love #Linux , but creating & making #ElectronicMusic is more important to me than the OS used. #Linux for work and, in my case, Windows for #Bitwig and #music at home.
@ambientspace @gozes @plaimbock I started using Bitwig solely because it's available for Linux. When I started using it, I realized it was even better than Ableton which I have been using for 10 years 😂
@flutttr @ambientspace @plaimbock out of curiosity, what makes bitwig better then Abalton in your opinion aside from the fact that bitwig works on Linux?
@gozes
Well although I don't like the design necessarily, the UI is much more useful and flexible. I found it to work perfectly for controlling lights which is often tedious in ableton. I also LOVE that you can rearrange audio samples inside of clips. Makes it really easy to build loops without the arrangement view. There is more but those are two of my favorite things
@gozes @flutttr @plaimbock the part where the full #Bitwig app costs 1/3 the price of Ableton coupled with the very impressive utility that the grid offers is why I am drawn to it. I have 25 years of experience solely using #Reason but the recent browser changes experienced with v13 have pushed me to use something else and I’ve been more drawn to the look and workflow Bitwig over Ableton.
@ambientspace @gozes @flutttr @plaimbock I really love Bitwig's modulation system, the way you can route basically any parameter into any other like in FL Studio. I've found it great for injecting variation and life into fairly loopy electronic music.
@jet @gozes @flutttr @plaimbock I am enjoying #Bitwig for the same reasons - that and being able edit multiple automation lanes simultaneously.
@ambientspace @plaimbock we'll for me it servers as creative constraints. Bitwig or Zrythm from flatpaka and the plugins that are available as flatpak should be more then enough. I don't need 100 similar plugins. That would just give me choice paralysis. Also I do much prefer to stick to Linux so does two constraints should produce something interesting
@gozes @plaimbock I regularly make use of only 3 VSTs, but 2 of those are Windows only (Viper - an #AccessVirus remake and Swam Horns). The other #VST is #VCVRack.
@ambientspace @plaimbock for VC rack there is cardinal which is already packaged as a flatoak https://github.com/DISTRHO/Cardinal :)

@ambientspace I took a quick look, I assume you mean AudioModelling SWAM Horns & Tubas? Unfortunately I can't find a downloadable demo to test it. That would be where I'd start, find the installer and launch that. Don't forget to run "yabridgectl sync" after installing to get the Linux stub into your Linux VST3 folder.
@kohan yes, that one. I’ll look into that tomorrow. Thank you!
@kohan if you are curious then email Audio Modelling and request a demo license to trial. They were quite generous to issue me a 14-day trial last year.
