Just convinced my friend to donate his huge collection of DVD's to one of the public libraries in town.

Many people don't realize that there are those who can't afford the internet, which means they don't have access to all of the streaming services out there.

The library for many is their only access to an internet connection as well as entertainment. Music, movie DVD's, and of course both audio and physical copies of books.

So if you have any laying around, consider donating them.

@Mrfunkedude Thatโ€™s a fantastic idea Iโ€™ll have to consider! Weโ€™ve barely touched any physical media we have since we moved into our house about eight years ago with the exception of video games.

@andy That was the same with my friend. He had a huge collection that he hasn't even touched in years.

I bet a lot of people do, and I bet there's a lot of libraries that would be happy to take them.

@Mrfunkedude and with streaming services memory-holing while shows, we need physical copies!
@Mrfunkedude
The library might (might!) put them in a "Friends of the library" sale if they don't have storage, but that's good too since poor folks will have a chance to snag cheap dvds and the library gets money.
@heathen_cat @Mrfunkedude one option, if you don't want to risk them ending out in a sale, is to make a lil' neighborhood Blockbuster
@Mrfunkedude libraries are an example of socialism working. We are all in a community and we can all work the best to our ability for that community.
@Mrfunkedude Done and done! I spent several months digitizing our massive DVD collection so we could watch them off our media server. Then I toted the collection down to the library along with the player, they were genuinely delighted and commented at the time that they could really use them.
@Mrfunkedude Such s good idea. We were just talking about paring down our CD collection.
@Mrfunkedude We find that collections are often funded by use, which means they diminish when new tech comes in, like streaming. That's OK for some, but seniors and the less well off don't often fit into the early adopters bracket and find their choices becoming limited or gone altogether.
@Mrfunkedude great idea...i'm going to dig all of my CD's and DVD's and do just that
@Mrfunkedude I do find (having gone thru this) that a LOT of libraries will not take secondhand materials and use them, but they will sell them at the used book sales to buy new materials.
