It’s been a minute since I have been in the #mastodon world.

I was diagnosed with stage 2 grade 2 clear cell renal carcinoma. I’m 32 years old and soon to be 33. I was given the “go home and don’t come back convo” from my oncologist which is great.

My first scans on May 31st were clean, and my next ones are October 31st. Would love to connect with other #cancer folks here if there are any.

If this doesn’t apply to you, that’s fine, but boost if you can ❤️👏🏻❗️

@sidsadler Hi Sid, congratulations on your great news! My son-in-law had Stage 1 kidney cancer in his mid-30s that was surgically removed. He's been cancer-free for over 5 years and runs in marathons. I'm a Stage 3 lung cancer survivor, coming up on 5 years since diagnosis. Go live your life and be well!
@JMinSD thank you so much for the kind words! So happy to hear!
@sidsadler Best wishes for continued great results. I've learned wellness has 4 parts: cell biology [which we can't control] but 3 parts we can, namely lifestyle, medical care, and emotional intelligence. Stay well.

@sidsadler
Congratulations!

My husband was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma at 29 and did chemo and radiation. Next year we'll celebrate 30 years of remission.

KICK ITS SORRY ASS!

@sidsadler

Had renal cell carcinoma a decade ago. Multiple tumours.

One partial nephrectomy later, I feel fantastic.

Fuck cancer. You got this.

@sidsadler Welcome to Clear Club
@sidsadler cancer sucks at every age. Was diagnosed with Synovial Cell Sarcoma when I was 15. It's been a struggle trying to live with it's damages.

@sidsadler breast cancer. stage 1 but type A, so the rabid kind. partial mastectomy. had to go thru the hell of chemo and radiation. got COVID in between that hell.

if you look at #fuckCancer, you'll find a lot of my posts about my journey on there. coincidentally, started physical therapy today. have a year to go of immuno.

@sidsadler Hi Sid, I had testicular cancer in my mid-30s, been clear for 14 years now. It can be a rough ride for the old mental health, especially when it's time for scans, but I just kept reminding myself that scans are good! My oncologist was really good and talked me through everything, which really helped. Hope all goes well with the next round for you!
@sidsadler Living with Stage IV colorectal cancer for four years, one week, and five days. Not dead yet.
@sidsadler my husband’s been diagnosed with clear cell renal carcinoma. He’s about to start immunotherapy.
@sidsadler glad you’ve got the all-clear!
@sidsadler Always good when the Oncologist tells you he hopes he never sees you again 😃
@sidsadler
When I began this I was afraid this was going to be another begging post (possibly from a Nigerian prince) and was prepared to give you a "Go away and don't come back."
What a relief! Welcome to Mastodon. I hope you find some cancer folk for company here. Stay well!
@sidsadler Had some lymphoma at 35, half a year of rough chemo later I was cured and now that's a decade ago.
@sidsadler Is it possible to write with you in German?

@sidsadler Hi Sid,
Throat cancer 2006. Without surgery life expectancy measured in days. Under 20% survival rate past 5 years. Pronounced clean after 7 or 8 years.

Kidney cancer 2016. Survived, and also clean now.

No worries.

Kind regards

Robert WT

@sidsadler

Congratulations!

I'm a cancer survivor. Over 3.5 years in remission from a PCNS lymphoma. I 48 when I was diagnosed. Not "a young adult" anymore, but this cancer generally afflicts people in their 60s and 70s.

I still get MRIs every 6 months to make sure the bastard does not come back.

#CancerSurvivor

@sidsadler I'm a stage 3 larynx survivor (so far), out of treatment almost 3 years.

These are the things I learned after finishing chemoradiation that I had refused to believe until I investigated and found out they were true:

Oncologists can get commission for using/prescribing from big pharma;

Opiates can cause metastasic cancer, so stop taking them asa;

Needle biopsies can "seed" cancer.

It's crazy what they don't tell us up front! Happy healing!

@AutumnBorn @sidsadler You really should stop spreading cancer disinformation like this, Autumn.
@sidsadler
I don't count as young cancer survivor but age 70 in 2022 I was diagnosed with tongue cancer and prostate cancer. The tongue's was more aggressive so had surgery that summer then hormone and radiotherapy on the prostate early last year. I already had polycystic liver and kidneys so it's been an exciting couple of years but I'm doing OK. Hope you stay clear. Good luck.
@Maker_of_Things
@sidsadler Hello! I was Dx with stage 2/3 breast cancer in ‘19. I am celebrating my 5 yrs clean next month. It sounds like you have a great oncologist.
@sidsadler Hi! I was diagnosed with testicular cancer at 26. Went through a surgery and 3 months of chemo. I was declared in remission last fall. So happy to hear that you're clear!
@itzyg happy to hear this 🫶🏻👏🏻

@sidsadler

That was great news for you Sid! My experience is similar but different. I am much older and was diagnosed with stage 4 Lymphoma, in October 2023. Fully expecting to pop off, it was amazing to me that the doctors reassured me that they are aiming for a cure! After 6 months chemo, I am in complete remission. The chemo was nothing like I expected and I tolerated it well. The NHS staff were amazingly caring, friendly and understanding. So good to hear your story. Welcome to Masto! 😊

@sidsadler I have a neurofibroma between my colon and intestines. They found it during a colonoscopy and endoscopy in 2023. So far,the tumor has not grown. I also have lupus and heart disease,so I was referred to the cancer center at UNMH. Thankfully I have a great medical team in place and they're monitoring things.
@sidsadler hey Sid - glad to hear your first scans were clear! I hope that means you were lucky to be diagnosed early. Cancer is no longer the death sentence it used to be. I had stage 2 colorectal cancer 9 years ago, and I’m doing well. It’s a scary diagnosis, especially for a young person, but treatment has come a long way. You have every reason to be optimistic. Fingers crossed for you!🤞

@lauriekay9 thanks for all these kind words:) I have quickly picked up the passion of advocacy work in the kidney cancer field as well:)

I had a therapist for a while before my diagnosis and I have kept her. While she’s not a cancer specific therapist, she has made the transition well I believe 🤷🏻‍♂️

@sidsadler not a young adult, not the same variation - but now on the other side. There are a lot of us. Happy to read good news.
@sidsadler Best wishes! There are plenty of us #CancerSurvivor here at the Mastodon. I got my diagnosis direct on my 40 birthday.. Yeah, I know, frickin "nice" gift from the life. It took two years, but I managed to kick ass of this crap. And for the next twenty didn't come back. Today I am 61 years old and I enjoy every single day I got. Being able to woke up, breathe, drink my coffee with my husband together and smile it is an precious amazing thing. Smile, by happy and enjoy your life! 😘❤️👍💋🥳

@sidsadler

I'm no spring chicken at 74 YOA, but I was disgnosed with adenocarcinoma of the prostate about 18 months ago via an MRI scan and a needle biopsy. The hospital in Luxembourg where I am being treated or rather monitored as no treatment has been suggested at this stage, is a centre of excellence for this particular type of tumour (reassuring that). The verdict of my urologist and of the cancer committee who revieve all cancer cases at that hospital is that at this stage, no treatment is indicated or required other than 'watchful waiting'.

This is fine by me as most interventions for this type of tumour involve a high risk of rather undesireable side effects that include, faecal incontinence, urinary incontinence and impotence!

@sidsadler That's a wonderful milestone to pass! Congratulations. I was diagnosed with stage 1 clear cell renal carcinoma 5 years ago, and, after a slice and dice of my kidney to get rid of it, just got my "we don't need to poke and prod you every six months anymore" certificate.

@box464 love to hear this! Yes I got “lucky” with mine. Being the size it was we assumed stage 3 or a higher grade or something…

I saw a kidney cancer specialist oncologist who is one of the top in the field and it was nice hearing from him “you can go home and forget about and just get scans”

@sidsadler It's a relief for sure - my brain and emotions about the situation still aren't quite balanced - my brain says "dude everything is fine" and my emotions say "stay freaked out about this!"
@sidsadler glad you got good news dude! hang in there!
@sidsadler I had a double mastectomy even though I only had cancer in one breast. Who wants to be lopsided? Said bye to my ‘girls’ and now I don’t have to wear a bra! (My mother had breast cancer as well.) News travels and now I have supported many women in their journey. You will survive this.

@sidsadler Sounds like great news!

It can alter how you look at things, make you more determined about others. Humour can help, I nearly went in with Mickey Mouse ears drawn on the site of the lump to get my results, as it could have been just a moveable lump (known as a mouse), sheer bloody mindedness is also good.

I was 28 with grade 1 breast cancer, knew when I found it, as we have family history. Hormone treatment and radiotherapy. Still have annual scans, but now a 40-something.

@meli_n thank you for this 🫶🏻

@sidsadler

Well Sid, I think that I can understand. I had lung cancer. Just passed my five year mark in June. I still have scan anxiety. I've come to the conclusion that it's normal.

It's a good feeling when you come out of active treatment, isn't it. Welcome to my world.

@sidsadler
Yeah. 63, Brit, white male; had my left kidney removed on March 1st. I've been keeping a very, very minimal log here:

DeterioratedStucco (@[email protected])

I have an unexpected blot on my left kidney, per ultrasound. Quite startling; the scan was at about 11 am on Wednesday, and the GP's surgery phoned saying "We should talk" before 2pm. Junior doctors (including most GPs) were striking that day, and my GP was on holiday. I conclude there is some urgency. I am not really surprised, as I've had intermittent pain there for a while. Further scans will follow, when the (overloaded) NHS can do it. Then we will know how best to proceed. 1 of n

@SoftwareTheron oh wow! Did yo get a diagnosis yet?
@sidsadler
Cancerous. But apparently 90% of those are cancerous and the others tend to bleed into the body cavity unexpectedly, so it wasn't a hard decision.
I actually can't remember precisely what I was told about the exact type. I could probably find it, if you're interested. Open to other questions, but not promising to answer them :)
@sidsadler congratulations!! I remember this talk too and the thankfulness I felt within me for the doctors & carers to give you me this additional life. I’ve been in remission from stage 3 Choriocarcinoma since 3.5 years and try not to take any day for granted.
Nice to meet you Sid and congratulations again!
@sidsadler
Hello Sid, I'm glad that you're now healthy. 🙂🤗. In 2023 I had an carcinoma on the base of the tongue, which was not operable, and I has had an affected lymph node. The lymph node was removed. The carcinoma was treated with radiation and chemotherapy. The CT Scan last week showed that the cancerous carcinoma is gone. I thank the Lord, I thank Jesus 🙏🏼🙂.
@AusderPampa
@sidsadler Glad to hear you're clear!! 🫂
@sidsadler help care for a relative with stage 4 clear cell. Responded to immune therapy nearly 3 years ago. Secondaries regressed 1/3 and no growth since. Now having annual scans.
@sidsadler Thank goodness you are ok! I was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 40, 49, and 55. After the last diagnosis I had a bilateral mastectomy, and now at 70 I’m very healthy. I wish the best for you!
@DebR thank you for the kind words!
