Did you know half of Americans think Trump should suspend his campaign after becoming a felon? They do.

#USpol #election #trump #president #politics

@davidaugust I mean yes, of course, but Trump doesn’t care and his ego isn’t going to bow to public opinion so it’s not particularly meaningful to focus on.

@biplanepilot it certainly is “worth focusing on” since people are foolishly making suggestions about changing who the democrats have running.

Also, whether you like it or not, the will of the people matters.

@davidaugust Trump will call it fake news, Trump will promise that when he’s elected he’ll “deal with” those lying journalists, and his base will eat it up. That’s your strategy?

@biplanepilot since he is already promising to “deal with” journalists, I’m not sure what you are suggesting here.

The truth matters, even if you have forgotten how.

If you think countering lies and liars who tell them with the truth cannot succeed because the liars will simply lie more than I seriously suggest you figure out whether or not you think the truth is more than a garnish on reality and until then sit out from any situation where your views may impact others in any way.

Thank you.

@davidaugust So your strategy is the truth for the truth’s sake regardless of how tactical it is? I mean, that’s certainly an honorable way to live. One could even call it when they go low, you go high, yeah?
@biplanepilot @davidaugust we shouldn’t make journalism decisions based on how stubborn the candidate is, or what is best for ad eyeballs or clicks for that matter.

@davidaugust 50% of Americans will say “hell yes” to anything negative about Trump.

This is a tautology with no new information.

But it does prove a good point.

@trisweb that’s not what tautology means. But let’s not let that or the fact a quick google search to compare results pre and post conviction unmakes your argument get in the way of feeling good saying stuff on the internet.

Muting you for the next week to decrease my exposure to un-thought out rhetoric. Thanks.

@davidaugust
Trump shouldn't even be eligible to run on account of all of the, you know, sedition.
@jargoggles I agree. Insurrection should be disqualifying (and the Constitution says it is).
@davidaugust
What really frustrates me to no end is that the Supreme Court decision that blatantly ignored that Amendment was *unanimous.* Like... fuck's sake, the three liberal justices knew how the outcome would go and still couldn't even pretend to fight back about it.
@davidaugust They have a perfectly good replacement just sitting there...
RFK...

@palin not in any way shape or form.

Muting you for the next week to decrease my exposure to un-thought out ideas. Best of luck.

@davidaugust @palin I got the impression from @palin post that this was referencing RFK, Jr as a replacement for #Trump. Maybe I missed something?
@WizardBear
Yeah , over half of the U.S. wants The rapist/felon to step down and I am positive that RFK will be a winner for the party as a substitute.

@palin @davidaugust

It would have help if you add the sarcasm switch (\S), because from my experience unlabeled sarcasm doesn't work well on the internet.

@SearingTruth @davidaugust

Ain't that the truth. I live in a very red rural area and lots of good people there BUT they are "informed" by Fox and bar talk, and I'm exhausted.

Thank you for never abandoning your heart.

@davidaugust why do we have 233 Democratic, 244 Republican, and 247 (so called) independent voters in your survey?
Based on the latest I could find, truly independent voters are ~3%:
The partisan identification of registered voters is now evenly split between the two major parties: 49% of registered voters are Democrats or lean to the Democratic Party, and a nearly identical share – 48% – are Republicans or lean to the Republican Party.

@RulesBuster this may not clear things up for you, for a number of reasons, but here goes:

It is not my survey. It even says so.

It is not possible to know the party affiliations of respondents before they respond, by definition.

Perhaps trying to analyze data from polls is something that can be more effectively done after one has a basic understanding of the nature of polls.

@davidaugust I assume you got this from the front page of the @nytimes ?

You should attribute your sources... 🙄

@codebyjeff @nytimes if only the image said “Source: ABC News/Ipsos Poll, fielded May 31- June 1, 2024” and attributed it as well to Ipsos the organization who did the polling with their logo and everything. /s

I’m going to mute you for the next week to lower my exposure to…non-productive things. I wish you the best of luck.

@davidaugust that was an attempted joke about the NY Times coverage - sorry I didn't make it come across that way. my bad

@davidaugust

Only 50% ??

@gilest I too was surprised to not see it higher.
@davidaugust the scary thing is that means half of them don’t think that. 😳

@davidaugust
Great. That fifty percent all live in CA, NY, MA, and NJ.

WY, ND, AZ, and the other states with all the electoral votes don't care.

@davidaugust Only half? What’s wrong with the other half, and can their condition be cured via involuntary euthanasia?
@enoch_exe_inc no, violence is never a good answer.
@davidaugust @enoch_exe_inc On the contrary; violence is rapidly becoming the only viable solution.
@davidaugust he could not get a job manageing a wal mart yet is still considered presidental

@davidaugust

And the other half is voting him back in office so he can destroy the democracy in de US!

@Luuk_Aalders likely it is notably less than half.
@davidaugust
But does that mean they won't vote for him ? Logic says so but this is in America so ...
