Estates of #RentierSociety do not want to "help house our homeless". Rather, #disaccommodation #classposture has been a national project since the close of the Civil War:

To be without accommodation, to be unaccommodated, to be nuisance, is to underwrite #EgoValue of #perquisitive classposture, while keeping those of #conveyancée classposture in line.

To be disaccommodation classposture is to exist as living morality play for others—there but by grace of #compliancism.

"You do you" is Eu-gen-ics. (@[email protected])

@[email protected] The origin of homelessness (#disaccommodation #classposture) as a national project begins with two prongs: • the moral panic over traumatized Civil War veterans who failed to assimilate into marriage and family; AND • the social upheaval of newly freed folk, without access to property, in a society that had only years prior depended on their labor. The latter gave us vagrancy laws designed to force folk into sharecropping so to avoid being arrested for not having a place to live.

@beadsland hey sorry to butt in, is there a text where you explain the idea of classposture and explain the various different ones? I'm interestedband I guess you must have posted this in the past but I missed it.

@qwazix

Apology unnecessary.

#Classposture is distinguished from categorical class—as how one holds oneself in material relation:

That is, is about situational power rather than hierarchical status:

Classposture may also be thought of in terms of silhouette—#tensegrity in tableau:

Which is to say, unlike categorical class, classposture speaks to a social phenomenology (praxiography), rather than an economic ontology.

Key to understanding any of this is recognition that #lumpentheory's #classposture is not anti-capitalist categorical class. To speak of postural relations is to speak of habit, of habitus, with one code-switching between postures as function of material conditions—classposture is not of any fixed social category. Thus, any person may both enact colonial extraction and be site of colonial extraction by others. Indeed, this is #tensegrity—structure held aloft by fetters of floating compression.

@beadsland thank you. I will be lying if I say I enderstood all of it but I think I get the gist. The idea of holding different postures at different times (or even at the same time, if I might add) explains a lot of things that I was struggling to fit into the income classes system. Eye-opening, worldview-shifting even.

Keep exploring these ideas.

@qwazix

Following up on this, so yes, holding different postures at the same time gets into questions of temporalities and embodiment that would be the advanced-level course of inquiry.

That is, critique of how the models presented by #lumpentheory, like any models, are necessarily overt simplifications, and thus limited in their ability to describe the whole breadth of socio-phenomenological experience.

So, if anything, you've gotten the gist well enough to poke at the boundaries thereof.
