I am much more likely to buy directly from you if you have Apple Pay checkout.

Otherwise, I just instinctively put it off or check Amazon.

I suspect many more folks are on that boat (or might have a preference for Google’s version)

Reminded of that by a toot by @vcsjones

@Migueldeicaza @vcsjones If there’s one thing Apple takes seriously, it’s ease of payment and keeping that relationship with its consumer. They have the best digital payment experience in my mind.

@Migueldeicaza @vcsjones Reply-dude-level tangent: Google is just a joke. I'm a heavy android user and I'm not even sure what they have anymore, I never use it.

Your point stands though, I have a preference for Shopify.

Edit: I was confused with in app purchasing vs the payment method when I said the below.

The challenge with Apple pay (and Google pay) is the premium charged businesses beyond what other payment processors typically cost. Offering them can be a real technical challenge for various reasons, but even when it's not, if you're selling something that has actual costs behind it (as opposed to things like in-game tokens with zero COGS), it's easy to make a loss on each sale

@Migueldeicaza I am tied to the Google ecosystem, but it's more of a surprise than an expectation to see Google Pay as a checkout option.

I'm pretty used to just rawdogging it with card details or potentially PayPal, though I don't want to give that company my business either.

(Totally understand the value of having a nice and consistent checkout experience though!)

@Migueldeicaza @vcsjones I was the opposite of this but more on philosophical grounds (Apple has a lot of control over my life and I don't want to give them both a monetary percentage of it and control over it) and fully acknowledge that I'm a weirdo to be in this bucket
@Migueldeicaza @vcsjones In the Netherlands we have a system called "iDeal". It's an online payment system developed by the 3 biggest banks. Other banks also adopted it. It allows you to pay with the mobile banking app of your bank, and uses QR codes in non-mobile places. It's such a success it's now the basis for the European standard that all European banks should adopt.
