Do you know about snapplanet.io? I've been playing around on it at the breakfast table, keeping an eye on the #Greenland #glaciers I have instruments on and it's just struck me again how mindblowing it is that I can download and process *on my phone* and for *FREE* a world's worth of high resolution satellite images from #ESA #Sentinel2. The future is amazing.

Here have a free image of Inglefield Bredning in NW Greenland yesterday.

The Andy Warhol edition of the same image? 😜
This is pink Panther processing, to pick out the coastlines and water bodies..
@Ruth_Mottram oh that is really cool. I wonder how and where exactly they source them. Would be neat if I could make something that gives me nice wallpapers.
@Huubje They are an ESA collaboration so the data is sourced directly from ESA servers...
You just need to download the app (no idea if also available on iOS, I use android), log in and choose your favourite part of the world. There are prepared filters if you want to highlight particular aspects like fire, ice, coastlines etc.
@Ruth_Mottram nice! I wonder if I can source the pictures myself. Getting a new satellite picture as my desktop background everyday automatically would be great. Thanks for pointing this out!

@Ruth_Mottram That is neat! I just spent half an hour browsing through the iOS app. I found this satellite image of my neighbourhood in infrared on 13 Feb. 2017, when a large fire was burning in the hills by the city.

@joncounts wow that's a great image. (What fantastic topography you have around you!). I think the wildfire processing is really effective at picking it out, I've used it myself in Greenland to look at wildfires.

@joncounts
Nice how we can spot the shady side of the ridges. I'm also astounded by the variation in heat through the built up areas. Guess improving insulation standards make a difference. I wonder what it would look like now with the changes in the rental rules

@Ruth_Mottram

@RedRobyn @Ruth_Mottram Yes, that’s an excellent point, I’d hope that improved insulation in homes would make a visible difference to the city’s infrared image from space. Built areas give off a lot of heat.
@Ruth_Mottram Great resource. Here's a test .. center:
