This photo isn’t shared to highlight that wind turbines can provide livestock much needed shade.

This photo is shared to highlight the importance of trees.

@renewable_energy this is why solar farms would be beneficial, since solar panels don’t create full shade - they work like a tree.

Some ALT text ..

Mostly barren hillside on a very sunny day, with the ~15% of the image showing blue sky and also what must be a wind-farm in the background. The rest of the image shows a herd of sheep, with a few scattered in the sunshine. All the other sheep are huddled in the shade of one of the wind-turbines, which comes right up to the camera. The sheep form the shape of the shadow.

@renewable_energy Me on my bike waiting for the street light to change.
Trees need a lot of water... so there's a reason there are vast unforested plains in the world. Humanity's deforestation creates way, way more spaces without trees, but I'm not sure if that photo is a forest friendly climate cut down to make room for a wind farm. It might be there's just not enough water for trees, and the sheep are what need to be removed since they're not adapted to living on scrubland without abundant water and shade.
@cy and some trees are very drought resistant…
@cy @renewable_energy In subtropical deserts, things like prosopis and parkinsonia (species I consider exemplar linked) may be a viable choice
Prosopis glandulosa - Wikipedia

@renewable_energy It is common that the absence of trees is caused by grazing of sheep. They selectively eat any small seedling trees.
@IncHulk We can build protection until a tree matures. Far from a barrier to plant trees.

@renewable_energy

A lot of solar collection at ten feet, with enough sunlight to increase vegetation.

"Solar Trees" for shade, and replacing carbon

@kevinrns Could be an option, albeit much more expensive than a tree.

@renewable_energy

Lets alternate trees and tree level solar. Shade might help some near desert lands.

And solar at ten feet can go up immediately, providing shade while waiting the 20 years for trees to provide shade, and the solar would pay for the trees, and college, some homes.

Another good place is under transmission lines, which should always be set back from humans because health, needs to be kept clear. Miles and miles, kilometers and kilometers of underused land, maybe with goats?

@kevinrns so I am clear: are you suggesting trees are planted under transmission lines?

@renewable_energy

No, solar cells. And goats for keeping underbrush under.

@renewable_energy This is why it's so important that we all get out there and rake the forests so that there won't be anymore wildfires that destroy trees.
@slcw hyperbolic nonsense just makes uou look silly…
@renewable_energy Clearly, my comment sailed over your head at 35,000ft. I'm sorry you completely missed the reference, and the point.
@Queenero89 @renewable_energy Hi! could you describe this photo for blind people, please? Thanks!!!
@kastwey @renewable_energy ALT: Aparece la sombra creada por un aerogenerador y, en ella, un monton de animales de ganado. Huyen del sol, ya que hará calor... no hay árboles.

@kastwey @Queenero89 This photo shows the long shadow on an open parie ground that is devoid of any trees from a very tall wind turbine on a sunny day.

In that shadow, an approximate 100 sheep are huddling in the shadow cast by the wind turbine.

Thank you so much for the reminder to leave alt text on pictures — I’ll make sure to do so in the future.

@renewable_energy #Bildebeschreibung
In versteppter Landschaft stehen vereinzelte Windräder.

Vordergrund fällt der Schatten eines Windrades ins Bild, das hinter der Kamera steht.

Im Schatten des Windrades stehen eng gedrängt Schafe, die in der verdörrten Landschaft nirgendwo sonst Schatten bekämen.

@renewable_energy here in my area it's normal to shave down entire forests just for 1-2 wind turbines. Sadly many don't realize the fact that those wind turbines are a huge problem for the ecosystem so they push the agenda to cut down trees .
@renewable_energy Solar panels, too, can throw some shade on a meadow! 😌

@renewable_energy If you keep that many sheep on the land, you're not going to have trees. Sheep really are totally incompatible with tree regrowth, as you can see in ancient forests all over Scotland.

The mature trees die, but no saplings can survive to replace them.

@renewable_energy
I would totally live under a solar panel.
@skry
@janisf @skry that’s commitment!
@renewable_energy @janisf Technically I’m already living under solar panels, but not like sheep do.
