@stevesilberman
Folks should listen to Rachel Maddow's Ultra podcast for a similarly eerie discussion about the domestic push for Nazism in the United States prior to, and during, World War Two.
The push involved two dozen pro-Nazi sympathizing congressmen with direct ties to the German government.
Plus, she's an excellent storyteller.
@hittitezombie @stevesilberman
Positioning themselves in case Trump wins (he won't) or at least appeasing the big money behind him.
I believe Timothy Snyder refers to that as "comply in advance"
I agree with everything you said, except one thing.
He will...
If he actually did believe the election was rigged then why on earth would he participate a second time?
The very fact that he thinks he can win this election underlines that he knows he lost the last one.
Bruh, there is no logical continuity to fascism, just whatever sticks and has momentum - a swift kick to the gonads arrests momentum and emotion outside of logic

@stevesilberman
It really is shocking given all we know of his prior actions and future intent. Even after the many, many ways the collective media has screwed Pres. Biden and the American people, this single report feels like a watershed moment in history.
@cynblogger @stevesilberman Bottom line:
Expect no action from almost all of today's "Republicans" to ever hold Trump accountable.
The path of the Rule of Law & Order is no longer their way.
Lawlessness & disorder is their current Trumpian creed & platform.
Does Congress, does the American people, do the United States deserve this? Nope!
I'm pretty sure Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger & other "Republican" fossils sorted out now would agree.
Eternal shame on them…
It's just one of many examples from a large swath of "news media". Racial hysteria, outright lies and distortions are presented as news stories every day to drive fear and hysteria in voters.
Look at what happened in the EU elections last week.
This is deliberate and organized.
@stevesilberman
No mention of his convictions and legal liabilities. No mention of his open indictments. No mention of his role in the insurrection. No mention of his unfitness for office.
Wow! The #AP is doing a whole lot of normalizing here.

@stevesilberman This is like a big news from printed newspaper in Soviet Russia fom my youth... 😡
@stevesilberman reminds me of the Daily Mail's "Hurrah For The Blackshirts" headline back in the 1930s
It can seem glib to compare the current era to the 1930s. There are parallels, with the rise of nationalism and the free press under attack, but we are a long way away from Nazi-style totalitarianism
Here's a rewrite that I'm sure Trump would approve of:
Donald Trump swaggered back to Capitol Hill on Thursday to give his lapdogs and henchmen a chance to demonstrate their fealty. They did not disappoint their "boss", lining up to praise him and vowing to do everything they can to bend the government to his will.
Donald Trump has made a triumphant return to Capitol Hill to meet with House and Senate Republicans for the first time since the Jan. 6, 2021 attack. GOP lawmakers find themselves newly energized and reinvigorated by Trump's bid to retake the White House. This is despite the federal charges against Trump for conspiring to overturn the 2020 election and his recent guilty verdict in an unrelated hush money trial. He held an hour-long closed-door morning meeting with House Republicans and then was meeting with Senate Republicans at campaign headquarters near the Capitol to discuss party priorities. It's his first visit as the party’s presumptive nominee.
Nice callback to Napoleon's return.
