Pacific Crest Trail: Part 1

Mount Hood looks stunning from up here on Table Mountain. I was informed by a frankly terrified-looking day hiker that black bears were seen up here last night. I’m proceeding with caution and will update you if I encounter them. 🐻🗻☀️

Pacific Crest Trail: Part 2

I’m really enjoying the views of Mount Adams. One of my goals this summer is to backpack near the volcano. I fell in love with it on the peak of Old Snowy. If you didn’t know it’s mid-May you would think it’s summer. I had a great time meeting and camping with @intrepidhero. We didn’t see the aurora per se but we saw a late night greenish sky. Felt lighter out.

Cowboy camping directly on the Pacific Crest Trail is definitely a choice. In all fairness, they did leave maybe two inches for me and all the day hikers heading up to Table Mountain.
@andrewbriscoe There must be some reason for this, right? I just cannot think of one…
@shantara My first thought was maybe they had a party last night at Gillette Lake but they do look like backpackers so not sure. There were open places to camp this morning.
@andrewbriscoe oh my… Looks like two very pooped hikers made a very poor choice.

@andrewbriscoe

I can kind of understand that for very tired through hikers but on the assumption they would be up at dawn and on their way. From the sun in the picture I would think it's after 9am. Not the place to sleep in.

Everything is pretty green already.

@HikerGeek I agree. If they have no choice then fair play. This was 8:36 AM. I mostly just thought it was funny.

Pacific Crest Trail: Part 3

I explored the unmaintained Two Chiefs Trail on the way out of the forest. Saw some unique views of Table Mountain from the south. Had to turn back at Greenleaf Creek because there was no way to cross without getting soaked. It was great to be back out exploring new areas along the PCT.

Here are some more bonus photos from my weekend along the Pacific Crest Trail in section H.
One last batch of photos. This weekend I plan to explore the next 25-mile section north on the PCT for the first time. The following weekend the weather is looking good for an out and back of the Rogue River Trail.

@andrewbriscoe three corner Rock?

Sorry you're still dealing with that white lumpy rain

@PizzaDemon The rock was honestly boring but I’ve been trying to do more side trail exploring. The snow was not too bad. I did have to put on micro spikes briefly to get down a steep snow bank back to the PCT but that was it.
@andrewbriscoe Always enjoy your hiking photos. Don't forget Memorial Day is the 27th with its concomitant increase in the numbers of folks heading outdoors.
@bosquebill Glad you enjoy them! I won’t forget. I have the advantage of starting the trail before the sun comes up Friday morning so I will be ahead of the pack the whole trip. 😁 Hopefully anyway. I also usually stop hiking by 3 p.m. so I usually get any spot I want.
@andrewbriscoe What a fantastic looking trip!

@andrewbriscoe so gorgeous, and looks like perfect time of year.

Most PCT thru hikers really do miss the best weather in Oregon by going “true northbound” from the south. A multi year section hike picking the best weather season for each section would be so amazing.

@andrewbriscoe light looks so nice on everything, so green also
@andrewbriscoe @intrepidhero Nice…great connect, beautiful spot!
@andrewbriscoe @intrepidhero Great pics! That’s terrific that the two of you could connect and backpack together.
@andrewbriscoe great views with such clear skies, mountain looks so crisp
@jds Thank you! The weather was almost too hot with the clear skies but I think I just need time to acclimate.
@andrewbriscoe had a similar feeling Sunday and I started to believe summer is coming!
