Did you hear the story about how $400k worth of Playdates were misdelivered by FedEx to a construction site near our warehouse? And then someone just… stole them? Seriously.

Well, guess what got hastily dumped at a random restaurant this morning?

Welcome back stolen Playdates!

More details — and likely a very good Playdate Podcast episode — in the future. For now, this was our best possible outcome, the result of lots of time and detective work. (Which, ok fine, we enjoyed.)

The real question is, can we sell these as a limited edition? Playdate Hot™

@playdate Add some black stripes for a Dalton's Edition! :)
@playdate Gentle reminder that it’s okay to embellish the story with details that might not be 100% accurate. Like maybe the thief disguised themselves as a spooky pirate ghost to scare people away from the crime.
@SasquatcherGeneral @playdate “And I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren’t for you meddling kids and your CRANK!”
@playdate Include an exclusive game where you have to try to fence or dump stolen Playdates while pursued by the Panic team
@mattround @playdate The Panic team of course drives in a Transmit truck.
@mattround @playdate Yeah, my thought reading this was it's too niche an item to sell that many of without someone noticing.
@playdate yes. I was always on the edge of buying one but thought „that’s just too much money for something I will probably not use enough“ but I will happily pay to own a small part of that story.
@playdate You Wouldn’t Steal A Playdate
@playdate congrats, @cabel and team! Wow. Just wow.
@playdate So, did you write them off before they showed up? If so, can I have one? ;) :) I'll review on my youtube channel.
@playdate the 40 pack box art is adorable tho. You should sell these at Costco.
@playdate @cabel oh my God I really wanna know the story
@playdate @cabel You could sell these as premium, limited edition “Heist Survivor” variants and make some nice seed money for the next venture

@playdate @cabel dang it Patrick read the full thread

I stand by the limited edition title suggestion but I see you already got there conceptually

@playdate legit wondering if someone thought they were stealing “useful” construction materials
@playdate why were they dumped at a random restaurant is the real question
@reesericci current theory: the restaurant is a stalled construction project, and thus has no working security cameras
@playdate fascinating- how did you find them?
@playdate At what point do you stop pretending these events were “random” and accept that the Playdates just went adventuring on their own?
@playdate how does this work insurance-wise?
@playdate Wow, glad you got them back!! Looking forward to that podcast episode!
@playdate I would pay for a heist edition ✋
@playdate @driph This is incredible. Do you have more info about this?? I’d love to write about it for my newsletter.
@playdate THIS IS INCREDIBLE!!? 😳🥳😊
@playdate Hot Playdate Summer 🫦🕹️

@playdate ummm, this is good news, right?

Please tell me this is good news.

@playdate I want to know what spooked them enough to 'return' them.

Or maybe they just couldn't shift them and needed space to store something else they nicked.

@playdate the boxes dumped in the street remind me of the play date crash screen. Congrats on getting them recovered.
@playdate @cabel That story (and in general the whole GDQ talk) was absolutely amazing. And can I just say that absolutely adore the completely unnecessary focus on design for the packaging material?

@playdate To be fair: A date in a random restaurant is not that far-fetched..

Sorry, I know where the door is.

@playdate lemme guess: FedEx saw no error on their part?
@playdate So what sort of embedded spyware is on them now? ;)
@XenoPhage They were still sealed and unopened, luckily 😌
