I would like to apologise to all Danes for spilling the beans on this but

Jeans are referred to as "cowboybukser" (cowboy pants) in Danish

By extension, all denim clothes are cowboy-whatever in Danish

As a result of this, my partner's washing machine has a setting that's only labelled "Cowboy"

Dane carcass in alley this morning. Tire tread on cowboy pants. Jutland is afraid of me. I have seen its true face. The streets are extended washing machines and the gutters are full of smørebrød and when the drains finally scab over, all the cowboys will drown.
@anarchiv in vietnamese we would even shorten it to just “cow”. alas, we don’t have “cow” mode on the washing machine
@anarchiv does it play Big Iron when the wash is finished?
@anarchiv I'm Danish and I'm not cleaning up after you ;)
@woollypigs spilling refried beans on my cowboy pants
@anarchiv how many of those consonants are pronounced?
@wollman finally, someone asking the right questions
@anarchiv Now I want a danish washing machine
@anarchiv #magyar version: farmernadrág (== farmer trousers), and farmer* (== farmer *).
not sure about washing machine programs tho.
@robinhood I imagine it plays a little "yee-haw" when you turn it on :D
@anarchiv I'm looking forward to the explanation of this then...
@telescoper @anarchiv what do you expect when you run the short cotton program? Everyone knows what that means!
@telescoper @anarchiv "slut" just means "end" or "finished" in Danish and Swedish
@anarchiv please please i need a photo
@heatdeath Maybe next time I'm there, though "I need to take a photo of your washing machine" is a bit of a weird opener ^^
@anarchiv same thing in Chinese too!
@anarchiv oooo Jeans in Chinese is also cowboy pants 😅 there's some sort of convergence out there!
@anarchiv Pics please!

@anarchiv - Note to self: Look into importing a washing machine from Denmark, so I'm prepared next time I need to buy one.

@anarchiv They're “spijkerbroek" (miner pants) in Dutch. I'd lose it if I saw a setting that just says "Miner”

Update: JK, apparently whoever told me that a few years ago was wrong. They're Nail Pants. It’d still be funny to have a setting that just says "Nails”.

@designatednerd @anarchiv Isn't it literally "nail pants"?
@bean @designatednerd
I was wondering
@anarchiv @bean Gah. I know some actual dutch person once told me it was miner pants (which made sense given their original intended use). Will update the post!
@designatednerd @bean
Could be there's some Purloined Letter type connection here that's too obvious to see
@anarchiv In cinema, a western movie is called a "cowboy film", the front seats closest to the screen are the "cowboy rows", and so on in Denmark.. perhaps more prominent some years ago.

@anarchiv This makes me so furiously happy I cannot even tell you

#MyGrandpaWasACowboy 🤣

@anarchiv I remember once in the 1980s, a criminal (bank robber or something) escaped with the boat from Copenhagen to Malmö. The Swedish cops looked for him on arrival, but did not get him, because the Danish cops had described him as dressed in “cowboytøj”, so the Swedes looked for someone dressed up as a cowboy.
@avadeaux This made me laugh out loud, thanks for sharing
@anarchiv that makes me disproportionately happy. :))
@acm_redfox yee-haw
@anarchiv sort of picturing the washer just going off on its own plan, who cares what the wash is....
@anarchiv No-- is that REAL?? If it is its pretty funny!
