She wins the bear v man thing. Put respect upon her name.

Her post has gone viral, which is, of course, how I'm sharing it, which also pretty likely means this young woman now has an actual horde of right-wing extra-super-MAN-men sending her threats and harassment to somehow impossibly prove how wrong she is, so it's probably worth pointing out that the fundamental essence of right-wing ideology is bad problem-solving skills and a constitutional, relentless and even violent commitment to enforcing shitty hierarchies that CREATE most problems in society.

"Conservative" responses to problems are provably bad, ineffectual and, thus, problem-INFLAMING because conservative ideology absolutely insists you do. not. fucking. meaningfully. address. or even RECOGNIZE. the. problem.

Empathy is innate. It is how we learn things from our first breaths. It has to be DEconditioned and one function of right-wing political thought for 50 years in this fucking country - from Limbaugh to Fox News to splintered micromedia like Rogan and Tate - has been to decondition empathy in as many people as possible by selling them tribalism and faux-aggrievement at people daring to step outside of the hierarchal "natural order." This is INTRINSIC to the ideology and why it became an actual fascist movement.
πŸ‘‡ 😐
"The beatings will continue until morale improves" is an old old pre-meme-era meme, but it is pretty much the very ethos of contemporary right-wing problem-solving and the rudimentary explanation of why it is just programmatic sociopathy.
And if you happen to see a giant red arrow pointing to other things happening right now, like say to administrators at Columbia University or any other institute of higher learning where kneejerk reactionary fuckheads decided to just blithely call in goons to beat their problems (kids mad at war) away, that giant red arrow very much exists and it is the bright pulsing neon Vegas-strip version.
Anyway, for some rollicking AV embellishment, here is my song Reply Guy. Remember to drink some beers and smash fascism this weekend, people!

@GrimmReality

Pre-All This, the throughline of conservative civic administration thought absolutely revolved around 'We have not imposed enough negative outcomes for individuals, to spur positive social outcomes on the whole', even in most dressed up terms and costume to bury how fucking demented and awful it all is.

The reflexive answer to anything was, is 'we haven't hurt people enough'. Now it has no dressing or costume or even farce pretense of better social outcomes evaluated against more Liberal thrusts.

@GrimmReality

Hmmm, "programmatic sociopathy"....

@GrimmReality It's funny, but my understanding is it's a mistranslation from Japanese of a sentence that could also be rendered as "the defeats will continue until morale improves". Which is a lot less incongruous …
@GrimmReality A bear might maul you and will steal your food, but will never gaslight you, lie to the cops, or write bad legislation.
@GrimmReality been living and exploring, often by myself, in bear country my whole adult life. I carry bear spray for bears and men but am far more scared of encountering the latter when I’m by myself out in wild places
@seachanger @GrimmReality bear spray works pretty well on people, too...
@apgarcia @seachanger @GrimmReality , as long as they're not standing at a distance holding a gun, isn't the US just the greatest...
@Antigrav
Hey, we absolutely have the right (and perhaps a religious mandate) to arm bears!
@apgarcia @seachanger @GrimmReality
@DelilahTech @apgarcia @seachanger @GrimmReality ,haha, ah yes, people (especially entitled ones, Trump, etc) don't want to face that 'the right' and 'what's right' are often very different.
@GrimmReality finally I know what the bear discourse is about!
TikTok’s β€˜Man or Bear?’ Question Gets Settled Once and for All β€” by God

Praise be! A verse from Proverbs directly addresses who it’s better to be stuck in the woods with...

@GrimmReality

People really REALLY need to learn how to make better relationship decisions, for both friends and partners. People make themselves victims of opportunistic theft and domestic abuse when they choose recklessly or desperately.

There's nothing wrong with remaining alone until you can make the correct choices. Repeated trial and error, in this instance, is not an especially good means to learn what those choices are.

@GrimmReality I didn't even know about all this, someone replied to a toot of mine on violence against women adding "cop" to the mix as I said they were the main reason violence against women isn't being tackled.

My reply was something to the effect of "The correct answer is bear' πŸ˜†

@GrimmReality

There's a reason there such a term as "reply-guy" but notably, I've never heard mention of the concept of "reply-bear".

Women, would you rather be stuck in a forest with a man or a bear?

I want to say the man, I really do, but I can’t shake the idea that I would be safer with the bear

@GrimmReality Kate Lister is a fricking legend and a friend to all bears.
@GrimmReality @jen I'm a big fan of Kate Lister. And she's actually also a joy to talk to (online, we didn't meet in rl yet)

@GrimmReality

"The Bear and the Maiden Fair"

@GrimmReality thing is, men are absolutely fucking awful. But a little bit of me wonders if the bears are just keeping quiet to lull her into a false sense of security...

(Only a little bit, mind. Men are absolutely fucking awful.)

@GrimmReality
This stupid TikTok rage bait is still floating around? It's entirely unproductive and inflammatory, and basically built to upset people for no gain. This isn't winning any allies or changing any minds, and it's not convincing anybody of anything other than that people waste way too much time arguing about the stupidest things online.
@GrimmReality They're telling us they hope we get mauled and that's exactly why we would choose the bear. Nit only are bears much harder to provoke (unlike "rape prevention tips", guidelines for how to avoid unpleasant encounters with bears mostly work), they're also not malicious.
@GrimmReality @raganwald It’s because their internet is isolated from ours by the Forestfirewall, silly.
@GrimmReality I'm a cis het man and I'd rather be stuck in the woods with a strange bear than a strange man.
@GrimmReality
Very tempting to go check the replies to the second post. There must be some reply guys trying to explain that bears can't write email
@GrimmReality who is raising these broken men?
@GrimmReality Oh! Wow! I'm just finding out now that Kate Lister was the OP of the man or bear question. I used to love her posts on Twitter in the before E.M. times.
@GrimmReality @cstross
Blimey, Kate Lister was behind the Bear meme?
I have such respect for her!
And she's not wrong.

@GrimmReality

Is that article the priginal source of all the #bearvsman hype? Or is it a Trittbrettfahrer article?

(only a screenshot, no link)

@GrimmReality research conducted by the US military suggests 3% of people are born without it, which is not nearly enough for their purposes

@GregStolze @GrimmReality

Compassion fatigue weaponized on an industrial scale.

@GregStolze @GrimmReality
Is this the true origins of the Three Percenters? πŸ€”
@RnDanger @GregStolze Nope, but that would make ALL KINDS OF SENSE, wunnit?

@GrimmReality There is one exemption per the bylaws, wherein you are allowed to care for the well-being of your immediate family (given that they meet the requirements of the ideology.)

Unofficially, many also care for movements they are a part of, so long as, in their mind, identifying with such groups thus grants the groups the identity of the individual. ("Go Team" is ok, because "Team" = Me.")

@GrimmReality 30 years ago I believed "empathy is innate" until I realized it is only innate in some people. Sadly some people are born w/o empathy and people with uneven care can shut down very quickly to survive. Sociopaths lack empathy and morals. They learn how to fake it and they learn how to mainpulate others with emotion.

@GrimmReality

One superpower of so-called Sensitive people is that they can never be robbed of their empathy. The more pain or deconditioning they endure, the more they empathize with others.

@GrimmReality Many decades ago, there was a meme going round that was all about making people think only and primarily about their own self interest: "Think of Number One!". It wasn't just politics, it crept into everything, driven by right-wing think tanks and various related entities. That too helped kill empathy.
@GrimmReality Over 50 years, actually. Southern stations refused to air certain TV shows and newscasts during the civil rights era because they claimed the coverage and/or the shows were "biased Northern (re: "Jewish" or the N-word)" programming. And talk shows of that era often had confrontational moments between panelists: Gov. Lester Maddox of GA walking off the Dick Cavett Show after getting dissed by James Baldwin.
