Every time I lose my Airpods (most recently, this weekend), I imagine the person who found them frustratedly trying to figure out how to get the dental floss to dispense.

Thanks to "find my", I can now get a street view image of their house to help me visualize this.

Unpairing them from my account so the person who wants a used set of Airpods (gross!) can at least use them.

Anyway, enjoy your fancy not-quite-new earbuds, person in Carteret, NJ.

(Since I have their address, I suppose I could mail them a set of clean eartips).

OK, I found the original box, complete with a set of clean eartips. Mailing them now, addressed to "New Airpods Owner" and a note saying simply "Listen carefully".

Sent. I addressed it to "The Finder", and included, of course, no return address or anything.

This way, we each get a story to tell, but neither learns the details of the other's. Just a bit more wonder in the world.

@mattblaze maybe you could send them a Christmas card every year asking them how they're enjoying their new airpods 😈
@mattblaze This is—with zero irony—my favorite thread of the month. You are a goddamn treasure.
@mattblaze mother fucker this is gold.
@mattblaze I was having a(nother) pretty crappy day at work, stopped for a break and catch this ons-going and mood is now IMMENSELY improved!

@mattblaze

I think this is how The Lake House started. Ask them to let you know how Super Bowl LIX turned out.

@mattblaze nice. 😂

does this mean he'll have your address too tho

yes, we know it's a he

@dannotdaniel @mattblaze

The return address should be Wrigley Field.

@mattblaze did you put a content warning on the package? Can’t be too careful
@mattblaze Perhaps you could warn them of the incurable ear disease they should take care to avoid catching
@mattblaze Who knows, they might be interested in returning them to their owner. I don't believe "find my" can be used in "reverse" for that purpose.
@mattblaze Or an SASE to get the 'buds back?
@mattblaze I saw someone spend an inordinate amount of time trying to find the airpod(s) after dropping one (or both) in an airplane. Don't be THAT guy!
@mattblaze imagine paying for air pods, just to lose them...
