Black lentils and purple barley tempeh again — currently my favorite combo

A new batch of black (Beluga) lentils and purple barley tempeh entered the incubator at noon today. This combination is my current favorite: relatively small seeds with high nutritive value. The re…

@Leisureguy Thanks for documenting! This is really cool, never thought to make it before. Yours looks better than the store-bought!

@dougbeney Thank you for your kind comment. I did eat store-bought tempeh at first, but it was expensive (about 10 times as much as homemade — see https://leisureguy.ca/2024/04/01/buying-tempeh/) and it also doesn't have the variety (or the excellent taste) of homemade. @Leisureguy definitely gonna be a next weekend project! Had no you could make it with rice, black beans, etc.
Certainly a lot of culinary creativity and innovation left in the tempeh world! Even in the vegan world it is not talked about enough.

Recently saw tempeh mentioned in a not-vegan-related gut health documentary though which was neat.

@dougbeney Let me know how it goes. I'm interested to hear about it.

Combining a legume and a grain has an obvious nutritional benefit, but another big benefit of tempeh is the fungus — see https://youtu.be/9NAJiddRz04

Sometimes it seems to me that vegans lean heavily toward refined foods and highly processed foods, both of which I avoid — that's the "whole food" part of my diet — though I do agree with vegans about the "non-animal" part.

I'm happy to answer any tempeh questions you might have.
