How does The Onion stay in business?

@dkiesow

🤷 🤦‍♂️

@mastodonmigration @dkiesow
@nancylwayne @woozle @Snowshadow @DeeGLloyd
I'm not saying that the WaPo doesn't both sides our politics terribly, I think they do, but that headline is not as misleading as many.

High interest rates along with the impending inflation from rising oil prices is going to be a steep political hill for Joe Biden and Democrats to surmount.

Though of course one reason that voters can't put it into context is because of our political media so...

@GreenFire I think the actual headline on the story is manageable, but the social headline is almost intentionally playing on the trope.
@dkiesow. On mornings like this and with headlines like this, I'm glad I canceled my #WashingtonPost subscription. It's coverage like this that lays the foundation for #disinformation, which MAGA outlets then blast to the base.
@dkiesow
They have spies in the NYT and WaPo newsrooms and have bugged the editorial board meetings?
@dkiesow my problem is that these hot takes are just like that, hot takes. They are someone rather weakly justified opinion. For example, people say it is economy. For last two elections it has NOT been economy. But centrist "tax breaks" media insists it is. So it is bad when it is economical downturn. And it is bad when it is economical upturn. LOL. Seriously.
While I see some inflation coming back up a bit, it will lack serious fuel because of lack of credit. It will take long time to clear.

@dkiesow

How does the WaPo stay in business?

@jztusk @dkiesow It's owned by a billionaire, duh
@darwinwoodka @jztusk And it has made a profit more than not in recent years.
@dkiesow Remember when it seemed more honorable to work for a newspaper than Facebook?
@dkiesow will Americans blame Biden for the obesity epidemic from all those chickens in their pots? Our panel of three middle aged white Republican men and one blonde lady discuss

@dkiesow Because LLMs aren't actually literate. I can't help but laugh at how so many coders *still* joke about how they can't spell.

We all need to understand and remain aware of how AI shapes our individual realities. It's been a big economic driver these last four years.

Gotta point out: inflation reduces the value of both debt and wealth. We need to lift our eyes up & off our own paychecks. MBAs can be very, very sneaky, and they using AI.

@dkiesow I like to think that it's because they have integrity.
@dkiesow Wall Street isn't the economy. And workers are forced to bet against themselves to grow their 401K and IRA since most traditional pensions no longer exist

@dkiesow

Washington Post competition is now the Onion and NYT, this is the short list./s

Companies are using inflation to price-gouge Americans – and making it worse

Thanks to near-monopolies in many industries, corporations are seeing record profits as consumers struggle with high prices

The Guardian
@Npars01 @dkiesow
This is what happens when corporations are not properly regulated.
@dkiesow I guess it's the serious news now
@dkiesow All right, but apart from gun safety legislation, fostering renewable energy, mortgage reform, fighting junk fees, farming reforms, student debt forgiveness and a booming economy, what has Biden done for us?

@dkiesow

"Good news of the day. Why this is bad for Biden."

Over, and over.

But that's a NYT thing. Why is the WP picking up that vibe?

@Edelruth @dkiesow I cancelled my NYT after decades. Now the WAPO is starting on the same path. I gave my monthly NYT cost to ActBlue. I may do the same with WAPO.

@Edelruth @dkiesow @mastodonmigration

Bezos

Some legislation this way or that didn’t go his way.

@dkiesow "How does The Onion stay in business?"

Copying statements from the Kreml?

@dkiesow

Also, fuck the WaPo. Back behind the paywall, you!

@dkiesow maybe it’s a tautology that the readership get the journalism it deserves?
@dkiesow economy > people. As long as the line graph goes up everything is good!

@dkiesow

The Washington Post is full outright participating in Trumps coup.

Im willing to arrest a LOT of billionaires. A lot.

@dkiesow WashPo has been taking the NYT Pitchbot account seriously, it seems.
@dkiesow
I saw a report that auto insurance went up over 20%. There is not much control over that.
@dkiesow Things are going great and that's bad for Biden ... What?
@dkiesow and the 'Journalists' are at it again proving that they are trained Journalists and not economists
@dkiesow this could be the Onion! 😂 I didn’t know the Washington Post was satirical. Oh, wait… it’s not. It’s just bizarre.
@dkiesow
I noticed they started doing stories about government functioning well. In other words, what is obviously not really happening.
