My playtest at a local game store got pushed back to next week, but I may get some coworkers to give it a go on Friday. Excited to see how my changes play out.

Playtest was a success, although I need to be a better moderator.

My game is reasonable, but too complex for someone who isn’t into board games. That’s not a bad thing, but it meant that today I was spending too much time telling people “This is how you do it” when I should have been saying, “What do you think you need to do next?”

Good learning for my technique and some insights for the game overall. #boardgamedesign #tabletopgamedesign #boardgames #tabletopgames #gamedesign #FlightNineteen

@EmpyClaw
True. Learning about/who your intended audience is can be quite valuable.

Any chance there is an UnPub event on the calendar coming up near you?
@grayson I hadn’t heard of UnPub until now, but looking it up, looks pretty cool! I’m unaware of the network operating in my little square of Canada, but we do have a local and provincial game design community. Mostly developers, but some tabletop designers as well.
@EmpyClaw sometimes a good developer is worth more than just designer help.

@grayson I meant to reply earlier but this is very true. I work with a number of (non-game) developers and their insights have been very helpful. It’s those logical and analytical minds at work.

I actually had a couple who followed up with me today with ideas. “I was thinking about your game over the weekend.” Which that alone was awesome to hear.

@EmpyClaw
That's wonderful! There is a certain threshold crossed when others think about a design afterwards like that.
