Between this site and a few others, I must have typed a dozen times "Go to my blog, find the Criminal Law FAQ page under the resources tab of my blog and read the entire page."

Why?

Because dozens of people are saying the exact same phrases.

That's what happens in group think ecosystems.

If you are saying the same thing, in the same words, that hundreds of other people are saying, you have lost your way.

@Teri_Kanefield

If it is any consolation, your former teachings and just my own experience seeing setbacks here and there, and good developments here and there, have all taught to soothe myself in the difficult times, and work hard on what I can contribute to the rest. So, your efforts have helped some people and the inherent message resounds.

I may still react a little, a feeling of dread or concern, but I still respond by pointing myself in constructive ways to work things out, and that's made all the difference.

@Teri_Kanefield When I read the news about SCOTUS today I stopped, took a breath, and asked myself, “What would Teri say?” You really have helped so many of us.
@beverly_gardner @Teri_Kanefield I told myself the same thing! And then turned off the TV

@Teri_Kanefield I’m sorry you have to deal with so much of that right now.

I’m looking forward to your insight on today’s news, esp. in the context of your earlier statement that them granting the stay seemed remote. You’re really good at distilling the machinations of the courts for us laypeople and while I wouldn’t say I’m on the ledge, my nerves could benefit from your perspective.

What are your thoughts on what this portends about a decision? Is it thoroughness or something dangerous?

@thadd 5 justices granting a stay was remote.

Remote doesn't mean impossible.

I was not part of their meetings. I am not a mind reader.

People can speculate on what they are thinking and why, but it is pure speculation.

Because they have ruled against immunity in lesser instance (like executive privilege) I don't expect them to grant immunity. They had opportunities before now to do so.

Why they want oral arguments, I don't know and neither does anyone else.

@Teri_Kanefield
I had the belief that it was important for them to hear the case so they could put it to bed once and for all.
I was perturbed that they set the arguments for late April though. So I dropped a line to my Senators and Representative asking them to gripe on my behalf for the lack of alacrity. That's all I could think to do.

@thadd

@snork303 @Teri_Kanefield I hope that’s the case, but it is disappointing how it affects the trial timeline with respect to the election. I know it’s fast for the courts but it also has big impacts for the politics of things and the pace is positively glacial by those standards.

Time will tell what, if any, impact the slow and deliberate march of the justice system has on the final outcomes.

@Teri_Kanefield Thanks for the response. As I said before, your insight to how the courts work is immensely valuable to people like me.

I totally get not knowing what they’re thinking. I think that because folks like you who provide explainers and rationale make these topics approachable, it’s easy to slip into a mindset that you also have some insider awareness of what these actions imply about how they’ll rule.

Thanks for always keeping us informed and, more importantly, grounded!

@Teri_Kanefield just so ya know, Teri, your posts have enlightened me and, most assuredly, many, many others. But the most negative emotions are also the most addictive ones. The rage/outrage machine will just keep churning on as long as we let it - or, more accurately, as long as we WANT it to.
@Teri_Kanefield "You have lost your way" and found their way.

@Teri_Kanefield
What do you think of the timeline of arguments ( seems appropriate for such a sweeping and consequential challenge to me ) and SCOTUS taking the case? ( it seems to me that they may be taking it to clarify the line of immunity for presidential action - make it precise and not as currently nebulous ).

It’s a danger of a bad decision as you have pointed out. Judges make mistakes.

@Teri_Kanefield

I saw the news, and I understood the implications of it from everything I've read before, and I thought - well - that sucks a ton, it looks like the SC is paying back Trump - they're trying to paint inside the lines, but still give Trump the delay he wants.

And then I thought - well, we have to fight harder - what can I do to ensure we don't lose our democracy to the people who have been activated by Trump?

Thank you for helping me figure out where to turn my anger.

@SueShannon @Teri_Kanefield
I thought the same things. I’m grateful for having learned from Teri how to get a grip and keep things in perspective. Thank you, Teri.

@Teri_Kanefield

Why are you typing when you should just cut & paste? 😀

@MsMarceline

Right. I should have a word file with the five or six variations I use and then just paste in the appropriate one.

Would I be flagged as a bot?
