fixed the heels on my big winter boot socks ๐Ÿงฆ๐Ÿงต๐Ÿชก

#darning #visiblemending

scared to walk on them now but i guess if i make new holes I'll just get to repair them again
@im I LOVE "visible mending" - both for the looks and for the attitude of fixing stuff instead of replacing stuff - and these are both positively gorgeous! ๐Ÿ˜
@shi thank you!! same! repairs are also just such a good length of project to complete in a single evening
@im tha iad cho brรจagha!
@im I love this!! I have slipper socks that have heel holes and I hate to throw them away, maybe I'll give this a shot (though I agree with other posters that it's unlikely I'll be able to make them SO pretty!!) ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿงฆ
@aunteef yeah, do it! and share some pictures!
@im So here is my attempt, just using regular acrylic yarn. I got variegated since I don't have a yarn stash and wanted to be able to use different colors. Definitely not as beautiful but also definitely makes these slippers usable again! So excited to have my red panda slippers back in service ๐Ÿ˜ Thanks so much for the suggestion!!
@aunteef oh that's awesome!! thank you so much for sharing, it's so neat and i love the original socks too
@im That's the most beautiful darning I've ever seen!
@im wow! I can't even freehand a twill
@im
that's awesome!
Gorgeous work.
@im so creative to do two different patterns! What a lovely problem solver.
@kellyromanych haha thanks! im still new to it and playing around so i just wanted two chance to try things
@im wow! Shows great things happen when we play & take chances. I've got a hole in a loved afghan that my grandmother started & mom finished. I held off on repairing. Maybe I'll give darning a go :)
@kellyromanych Ohhh, that'd be really special. These socks were just shop bought and it felt nice to be caring for them, it'd so significant to do that for something with a family connection
@im woah that's so cool! I've wondered how people mend socks.
Would you say this is only practical/worthwhile on thicker wool socks or any kind of sock?
@cubeofcheese I think it'd work on any sock, you'd just use thinner yarn to match the original fabric. Traditionally this style of darning could be used for invisible mends on even very fine woven fabrics
@im wow, those are gorgeous! I just darned my first pair of socks and they look like crap, it's clearly difficult to make it look so nice!
@im Oh, that looks so cool!
