America is a Joke!

@MrLee @arstechnica

Mostly just Florida and the other ungovernable Republican regions.

@jonhendry @arstechnica
But surely in any civilised country there should be federal rules that stop this happening?
Surely, "the constitution" should state that elected officials must act in the interests of citizens based on the best data and science available.
This has to be a basic requirement for anyone in government, in all of America?

@MrLee @arstechnica

"Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard."

H. L. Mencken

States like Florida are like your adult siblings who constantly self-sabotage and there's nothing you can do about it.

Unfortunately there's not really a way to hold an intervention for 21 million people.

@arstechnica
It's not the heat, it's the stupidity..
@arstechnica the only appropriate response to this
@FedericoSchonborn @arstechnica Or a foreign intervention. Call it a “civilising mission”.
@arstechnica Jesus fuck. Why do evil people seem to thrive?
@arstechnica this is INSANE. Measles is one of the most contagious pathogens on the planet. 90% of those in contact with an infected person will contract the disease if unvaccinated. It lives on surfaces or hangs in the air for TWO HOURS after a sneeze. FFS, the anti-science of the "protect the kids" Florida anti-woke dumbshits WILL kill children.
@arstechnica Whoever is in charge there reminds me of SimCity when I'm bored. Pretty sure this comes somewhere between legalizing gambling and setting literally everything on fire.

@nroth @arstechnica

SimCity 2000 -> Earthquake + Sea Monster + Tornado + Fires enabled = Florida.

@hannu_ikonen
Ah, the good old days.
@nroth @arstechnica
@xris @hannu_ikonen @nroth @arstechnica The person in charge is called DeSantis. He was also running for president of the US.
@arstechnica
Backwards assed hicks.
South goin' do it again.
@arstechnica
This should be a crime. This is completely bonkers.
@hannu_ikonen
@arstechnica
I wonder what's going to happen when one of these students passes measles to someone who is pregnant, who then miscarries. Will Ladopo take responsibility for increasing the risk?
@arstechnica He also downplayed COVID-19. Just like his boss DeSantis.
@arstechnica Best social media manipulation Putin could have ever asked for. 😡
@arstechnica Florida is a third world country.
@arstechnica Ladapo needs to go! Straight to prison, and he can take Ron with him.
@arstechnica My family used to travel to Florida every other year or so. Haven't been since pre-COVID, now and won't be going back until they get rid of Ron and the horrid things he's done. It's just not safe for us there anymore.
@arstechnica Just insane that this official backs exposing children to illness that can and does kill!
@arstechnica For all their forced birth policies, the repugs really hate post-born children.
@arstechnica 🤦🏽‍♀️ so over people who aren’t even smarter than a zero celled virus 🦠

@arstechnica

Now there's a man who knows exactly what he's doing.

And that's what scares me.

@arstechnica @lisamelton do me a favor, if you see this gentleman in the street, cough on him. Some of us are likely to have an airborne disease that could inconvenience him.

@arstechnica Florida is f**king around. It's a shame their kids are the ones who are gonna find out.

My wife's grandfather had measles as a kid, and he had a hard time containing his disdain for people who didn't want to vaccinate their kids against it when they could.
