Wondering if there is anyone out there who is looking to get into game development part-time?
It's what motivated me to get into computer science, but I've never been able to find a job where I can grow those skills.
I've had an itch to create an isometric real-time-strategy (RTS) game for a while now, but as a systems programmer, I am not well-versed in graphics APIs like Vulkan or Metal.

Knowing how difficult and resource-intensive it would be to compete with AAA studios, of course, I think this is something where it's best to start small.
I'd like to work on something inspired by retero games like "Populous 3: The Beginning" (https://youtu.be/MMLOns86Rr0).
I will also need help with #art, especially since I'd like something with a 3D isometric view shown in the video.

My struggle with all this is that I'm not too keen on companies like #unity, despite #unity3d being easy to work with and cross-platform.
I also have had trouble working with the toolchains provided by #godot, as great as it is for beginners, I hate not having any control of the low-level code. 😅
That being said, if anyone has experience extending Godot or some other engine like Acid ..

I do come come from a technical background, so I'm figuring this out as I go.
All I know is that I'm tired of having to depend on only one source of income, and one where I have very little say 😅
As tech people, we tend not to take care of each other or work together outside of employment, and I want that to change.
