When I first started doing cardio for the sake of exercise a couple years ago, I was a bit concerned that when my heart rate hit my maximum, I got this odd pain behind my right collarbone. But google-diagnosis reassured me that my heart wasn't about to explode, so I soldiered on and figured I was just out of shape.

(My concern was heightened by my smartwatch at the time reporting my HR at 220bpm when my max should have been like 181. New watch is actually accurate though so that helps)

Now it's been a couple years and I still feel it and take it as a signal from my body that my HR is maxed (it is a remarkably reliable indicator) and maybe I should chill a bit, but I do still wonder why on earth I get this pain. I noticed that that if I put my fingers just above the point that hurts, I can feel my pulse. Does anyone else get this?
Can any clever mastadonians shed light on it? Every time I google it all I can find is info about injuries that cause pain there.
