Thirty years ago, I used the holidays to rewrite our in-house 3d tool from scratch, based on specs and design I worked on for a year. On January 2nd 1994, the first version of Blender was running!
I'm incredible proud, humbled and impressed of where it went. Happy 30th birthday :) #b3d

@tonroosendaal
The very first "coding holiday" ;)

Happy Birthday Blender! 😊

@tonroosendaal Congrats Ton! Who's that handsome guy in the photograph? πŸ˜‰
@tonroosendaal thank you, what an incredible experience it is, to be able to just make 3D models without a financial budget
@tonroosendaal did you at least get paid for the effort?
@tonroosendaal happy 30th anniversary of Blender! You’ve given us a great gift by starting this work :)
@tonroosendaal wow, what an amazing story from the Blender creator itself. Very inspiring. Grats to you and everyone involved in Blender development.
@tonroosendaal When I showed this post to my 11-year old son (who has dabbled a bit in Blender) he asked if color already existed πŸ˜‚

@tonroosendaal Thanks for doing so! It's ended up some of my favourite software.

Here's to the next 30.

@tonroosendaal thank you and happy 30th birthday ! #b3d
@tonroosendaal thank you, and congratulations. Happy birthday
@tonroosendaal justice curious where you were working, since this was an β€œin-house” tool at the time. Also in retrospect do you feel that it was time well spent since it was technically your time? I’ve done similar things in the past because I felt like somethings would never get done unless I took my own time to do them.
@tonroosendaal happy birthday #blender and thank you @tonroosendaal for this 30-year-long, splendid, gift.
@tonroosendaal I just noticed the Deluxe Paint IV box on your desk. ❀️ In 1994 I was still using that on a daily basis on my Amiga. Brilliant pixel editor.
@metin @tonroosendaal And an Amiga, of course.
@thematic @tonroosendaal Yes, a good ol' A2000. In 1994 I had moved from an A2000 to an A1200 (AGA). But Ton's Silicon Graphics machine surpassed the Amigas. I guess that's why the Amiga moved to the background. πŸ™‚
@metin I didn't have the use of an A2000 but a Commodore 64 (sold then), but it was the same year that I got an A1200.

@tonroosendaal

Your selfless work has become a great contribution to modern humanity fellow citizen Ton Roosendaal.

Without it many compassionate human beings would not be financially able to compete with the advanced propaganda which now engulfs us.

@tonroosendaal And what a future Blender ended up being for me. Inadequate funds turned me from the 3d modeling software I had learned on in college. Didn't have $14K but I did have an imagination.

Blender has just kept getting better and better. 2.79 was the one that changed the game (for me). Blender is also useful for realizing the things I want to print into reality....

@tonroosendaal This is an amazing picture as well. <3 blender and have used it for ~20 of those.
@tonroosendaal very curious about what your paper notes looked like during this time period
@tonroosendaal Blender continues to be the most impressive copyleft software project in my eye. UwU
Thanks to everyone working on it and answering questions on forums and making tutorials and assets.
@tonroosendaal this is so cool! Thank you for sharing 😊
@tonroosendaal thank you for your amazing work! πŸ™πŸ»
@tonroosendaal wow! I saw your interview on YouTube, it was cool!
@tonroosendaal 30 years. If Marty traveled back in the delorean now, he'd arrive in time to witness this. πŸ«¨πŸ« πŸ˜‚πŸ«‘πŸ€―
@tonroosendaal Thank you so much for your work.
@tonroosendaal I remember back when using Blender 1.8 required me to print and learn nine A4 pages worth of keyboard shortcuts. How far it has come, how much it has enabled me as a hobbyist to dabble in the things normally locked behind a steep price of other 3D software.
@tonroosendaal Thank you, using it right now for 3D print design, which I'm guessing you didn't have in mind... πŸ‘ 😎
@tonroosendaal .. and it's now an in-house tool in many houses out there! 😎 Happy birthday Blender! :D

@tonroosendaal blender as a project is quite a wonder

kudos

@tonroosendaal
Just want to say
THANK YOU
