I added a screenshot from the top #lemmy comment, echoing a sentiment I have about a critical market share making us big enough for vendors (#hardware and #software ) to care enough about Linux.
@jimmakes me too. I hope this year is actually the year of the Linux desktop 😂, I've been waiting for that promised time for years now!
Some things that make me hopeful:
- #SteamDeck has brought #steam and #gaming users to #linux - I hear a reasonable buzz about it in the #Fediverse (not a gamer myself)
- the #linuxdesktop is very modern now, especially #kde and #gnome . I find both smoother than windows
- #windows pushing #ads , #onlineaccounts (bad for #privacy)
- decent older machines
