Having enjoyed Swan Song by Kelleigh Greenberg-Jephcott a while ago, couldn't resist Capote's Women by Laurence Leamer (h/t @Hey_Beth who's been immersed in the Capote world recently).
Privilege and entitlement means it's hard to empathise with the swans; but they landed then married detached sometimes cruel men. I thought about Larkin's words on parenting a few times.
Capote comes across as vain and narcissistic. It's pretty unedifying but very readable. @bookstodon #bookstodon #keefsreads
It's Kate Atkinson. It's short stories. It's going to be OK isn't it? And while none of it will stay long in the memory, it played with ideas of time and place enough to keep me engaged.
@keefeglise @bookstodon I really liked these stories, and it seems that perhaps this collection was somewhat lost in the shuffle, being that there were blockbuster novels released this year.
I hope that short story readers will pick this up. They may be surprised at how solid the subtle storytelling is, in these lightly linked quirky jabs at everyday life and people.
