Even here in West Virginia, where we have a raging hardon for coal and any other fossil fuels that rapes the earth, gas prices are below $3. Who decided $8 even sounded realistic? They should have gone with $5. I could potentially believe gas is $5 somewhere, but $8 is ridiculous.

Gas prices for unleaded is $2.89 in Southwestern #Ohio in #AppalachianOhio. Across the #OhioRiver in Maysville, KY, where the GOP didn't recently raise gas taxes like the Ohio GOP did in Ohio, it's $2.69 per gallon.

@georgetakei US-American gas-prices always baffle me as a german to be honest: shortly after Ukraine was attacked by Russia, the gas prices were at over 8$ a barrel and are now back to around 7$ a barrel here. And please consider that the income in the US is generally higher (on average compared to Germany).

So what I'm trying to say is that 8$ a barrel is not the end of the world and apart from that you are far away from it.

@Schepphimself @georgetakei Maybe it makes more sense when you realize what many Americans drive. The best selling vehicle in the US is a 2000kg pickup truck that uses 11.7L/100km. The best selling vehicle in Germany looks to be a VW Golf GTI that uses 5L/100km. So to go 100km in Germany you spend 5L x $1.83 = $9.15. Here we spend 11.7L x $0.85 = $9.95. Big trucks make us feel like big strong men, so we need low gas prices or we'd feel insecure. Hope that helps!

@CuriousMatter @georgetakei I agree. The actual cost is rather complicated to calculate (I tried to bring the income-difference inzo it at least). But the bottom line is that gasoline is a) too cheap and b) it's manageable if gas is more expensive.

It is important however to look into how a more expensive price for gasoline impacts low and medium income households.

@georgetakei Germany has among the highest gas prieces and we don't have $8 a gallon. Its about €6,84 at the moment - about $7.45. Assuming €1,80/liter.

Love how Abbot says Foreign Oil like he didn't approve selling all oil fields in TX to other countries. LOL. There is no domestic oil to gas production and even being shipped as oil to another country, processed and send back to sell. Gas owners, after all overhead. Pocket 1.4 Million Dollars Per MINUTE....
