When you really love something that inspires you, no matter what that thing is, that love often comes with an intense, sad longing for a time and a place you know you can never see or experience. For me, it’s at Atari or Apple in the 70’s and 80’s.

For Hiroshi Sumi it’s at ILM, making Star Wars.

But Hiroshi didn’t settle for longing. This short film shows how tenacity, daydreaming, creativity, and lifelong dedication, can recapture and reappreciate something long gone. https://youtu.be/KlRfXo3SC_k?si=1XEKZeMSFspjTCeA

@cabel @Gte Oh, man. I had that receiver above the desk.
@cabel this broken gravestone for Atari lingers on a little hill outside my office.
@adameccles Holy cow what! What is the story behind this!!

@cabel the Dell office in Limerick, Ireland.
Used to be the Atari factory a looooooong time ago 👾

(Used to also be a Dell factory back in the 90s)

I guess no one ever took the sign!

The factory part is basically empty now. The offices are used still. (And all fancied up lately)
We have a big lab there but there’s a huge area of nothing where those people are working. 40 years later …!
