New Outlook is good, both for yourself and 766 third parties.

@Shrigglepuss

what if you press the "reject all" button?

😜

@BratschCbra What if they just didn't? All of these questions to never know the answer to
@Shrigglepuss @BratschCbra then the EU would be mega-fining them (hopefully)

@BratschCbra I call BS!

It's highly probable that "Reject all" won't actually reject all… Like presse websites (all those who use IAB crap) have a lot of "third parties" and multiple purpose than can't be rejected, with still wing only marketing (mixing "delivering content and ad" as one purpose, claiming collecting data offline and mixing it with online collected data, or determining who use how many devices… or even advertising is "legitimate interest"… and other bullshit)

@Shrigglepuss

@BratschCbra

Those than cannot be turned off are usually hidden between those that can't be turned off (and still no guarantee they won't collect data).

Huge lists of "parteners" make it difficult to check that ALL are actually turned off… and even impossible to check those that has been turned off don't actually collect your data…

What if people just stop constantly defending M$, google, cr…apple, amazon, twitter, facebook and all the rest, for doing shit and being shit?

@Shrigglepuss

@devnull @Shrigglepuss @BratschCbra well apparently the 'intended function' of the software is to track users and deliver ads, primarily. But you know, publish articles or the like. That's just by-the-by
@Shrigglepuss It's like facebook but with even more Personal data ... 😃👍😎
@Shrigglepuss I wonder how up to date that 766 number is… just one external party would make me uneasy, 766 makes me want to scream…
@Shrigglepuss BTW, is that for the Outlook Web Application, or the Outlook app? Because if it is the latter, I want to send them to the GDPR faster than you can say cheese…
@juandesant It's the new app they're beginning to roll out to everyone to replace the old Mail and Calendar app (and regular Outlook I think, but not looked too deeply into it yet)

@Shrigglepuss OK, but this is Windows only for now, right? Using Mail.app and Fantastical on macOS because I hate the new Outlook with a passion…

It is a pity the old Outlook Express for Mac (which was based on the Claris Emailer codebase, if I’m not mistaken) was lost…

@juandesant I thiiiink the new Outlook is just a progressive web app under the hood so probs also coming to macOS too
@Shrigglepuss The new Outlook severs you up with email adds, stopped using it when it incessantly kept trying to beg me to change new outlook. Now using Thunderbird as my mail client.
@Shrigglepuss @juandesant The New Outlook is a web app and that's why you see that window: it puts a lot of data on Microsoft's servers. Probably it will substitute the old Outlook for Windows and Mac but that depends on reactions by corporations: they hate radical changes in UI and like to manage their data.
@juandesant @Shrigglepuss Micro$oft has repeatedly and systematically ignored the GDPR for years (e.g. by using opt-out instead of opt-in for tracking during Windows installs), so I would be seriously surprised if the risk of them being fined isn't part of their business plan and it still comes out positive. 😒
@juandesant @Shrigglepuss does it matter considering the rights are transitive?
@Shrigglepuss Or as I've seen elsewhere: "We and our 766 partners value your privacy"

@ln @Shrigglepuss

at $50 per person in advertising revenue.

@winkleink The more data and data brokers the merrier 🤑💰
@Shrigglepuss And since this is Microsoft, there's a non-zero chance that a future software update will change/reset your preferences without notifying you. Happens all the time in my workplace with other MS products, even Windows itself.
@jb For sure, there's a lot of that going around. That whole "remind me later/maybe later" instead of "no, never" does me in on upselling and consent screens too
@Shrigglepuss @wurzelmann same on spotify & co... cloud means not private. always.
@Shrigglepuss "Some third parties may process your data on the basis of their legitimate interest." (Other third parties have more nefarious intentions...)

@eribosot

"legitimate interest" is often used for nefarious and non-legitimate ways… Forcing ads without consent and claiming it's "legitimate"

Spoiler : No, it's not. Adcrap always require consent. Claiming it's legitimate interest" doesn't make it any less illegal to track and spam people without consent… But as long as people don't defend themselves, and file complaints, and as long as some "data protection authorities" (esp. the french one) don't act accordingly…

@Shrigglepuss

@Shrigglepuss
There is literally an army of "third parties" at work to improve your user experience. Great. Why at all thinking for yourself?

@Shrigglepuss

I prefer to call them followers

@solownh Get 766 extra followers with this one weird trick
@Shrigglepuss I am using the new Outlook and cannot find the dialog in the screenshot anywhere in the settings.
@Shrigglepuss Curious what you’re possibly allowed to turn off under “Manage Preferences”
@lindhartsen Next time I see it, I'll have a poke around
@Shrigglepuss Why aren’t you using gmail already?
@alexpap I can't tell if this is a joke or not. I use neither
@Shrigglepuss With "precise geolocation" no less ... what will it take for people to stop using software like this?
@Shrigglepuss Because I already didn’t have enough good reasons to use @thunderbird
@palhargitai @Shrigglepuss Now you just have 767+ good reasons! 😅 💙

@thunderbird @palhargitai @Shrigglepuss I love how it feels 766 is a perfectly justified number of third parties

whoever goes "this is fine" deserves to have their computer taken away from them, back to pen and paper you go

@paul @palhargitai @Shrigglepuss There's a case to be made for stone tablet and chisel. Just saying.
@Shrigglepuss I know there are a lot of fingers in this particular pie… but 766?!?!
@Shrigglepuss Well, I've always wanted an audience...
@Shrigglepuss 2040: We and 9 billion third parties value your privacy.
@Shrigglepuss This is the next stage of human (d)evolution.
@Shrigglepuss "Some third partied may process your data on the basis of their legitimate interest" .... So, some are not legitimate? And none are doing it for your interest.
@Shrigglepuss I think I'll take my chances with 30-50 feral hogs.
@Shrigglepuss hmm where do you go to bring up this screen and reject all
@Shrigglepuss It looks like desktop email clients are not obsolete after all.
@EvolutionGnome Extra disappointingly, this is from their New Outlook desktop client (signing into a Yahoo account too, no less!)
You've shown yourselves that sending info to 766 third parties isn't necessary just to use emails
@Shrigglepuss
You gotta fight!
For your right!
To disclose (your customer's data)
To third parties!
@Shrigglepuss only 766? Number seems low 🤣
@Shrigglepuss my milkshake brings 766 third-parties to the yard
@Shrigglepuss
I got the same thing on Spotify in my browser yesterday with you guessed it....766 third parties
@Shrigglepuss So glad $MSFT put that 766 up front instead of burying it. Cool that it’s a number that gets updated as the service architecture and business relationships change. Better if you could dive deep into the mesh of partners to understand granularly what’s happening and why. Best if you had some finer controls and updates on partner outages, breaches, jurisdictions, etc. #microsoft #privacy #dataprotection #outlook
@Shrigglepuss 776 seems like a better number plus Microsoft too. Outlook reliably loses emails and is so slow too.
@Shrigglepuss I only use it at work where I'm forced to, so if my employer doesn't care about corporate espionage, that's on them.
