as a passionate supporter of free speech, i'm going to sue a publisher and author to force them to take down an article i didn't like

#Twitter #ElonMusk #MMfA

in my personal experience it's some of the most supposedly pro-free speech people who have some of the most buckwild ideas about what constitutes defamation (or i guess business disparagement in this case)
@molly0xfff what they mean by free speech is "i get to say slurs and nobody can complain"
@amydentata @molly0xfff Which is weird, because they don't like it when you call them a gammony racist pig fucker.
@molly0xfff it's only free speech if i agree with it
@tootbrute @molly0xfff see also "it's only political if I disagree with it"
@Aradiel @tootbrute @molly0xfff
I mean personally I think most things are political, but then I'm over 50 & studied anthro in college so 🤷.
@FeralRobots @tootbrute @molly0xfff exactly why the "don't bring politics into it"/"don't make it political" crowd are, at best, wrong
@molly0xfff free speech is a dog whistle at this point

@molly0xfff

When I see someone describe themselves as a "Free speech absolutist" I just assume they are a Nazi. Nazis, like Elon Musk, know they can win the public debate with logic and reason, so they demand the 'right' to harass and intimidate people who oppose them.

@molly0xfff “If you have the facts on your side, pound the facts; if you have the law on your side, pound the law; if you have neither the facts nor the law, pound the table."

They’re just the personification of this quote + the money to do it more loudly than others.

@molly0xfff everyone’s always so mean to Elno, he’s just some chill guy trying to extract as much capital as possible before fucking off to the moon. Can’t anyone cut him some slack…
@molly0xfff disgust about 'cancel culture' is definitely at its highest amongst cancellers. They can't help it though, it's a personality disorder: sociopathy
@molly0xfff Hypocrisy is King

@noondlyt @molly0xfff

I aM "tHe MoSt pRoMiNeNt vOiCe oN ThE PLATFORM!11!!!111!!!!"

(Pounds on chest)

Seems like I've heard this schtick before... 🤔

@molly0xfff Fascist doublespeak FTL
@molly0xfff Hopefully this line will resurface as part of the judge's dismissal...
@molly0xfff Elon is a Moron. I wonder how much thought he's actually given to how history is going to remember him, as a cartoonish villain so untalented even Hanna-Barbera couldn't concoct him.
@zeruch @molly0xfff he probably actually believes he's going to be remembered for achieving something like colonizing Mars or inventing actual AI

@ehproque @molly0xfff his little acolytes are a testy lot of eunuch-taint canoes. I survived the dot-com cult of personality parade and have been suspect of the tendency in the industry since.

It really seems to get some techbros or their kin in a state of apoplectic derpitude.

Note: yes, I work in tech and have for decades, which is why I loathe so much of it's "newer entrants" as their drivers are largely so alien to my own (yes we all want to get paid, no we dont all drink the kool aid)

@molly0xfff "As Musk Endorses Antisemitic Conspiracy Theory, X Has Been Placing Ads for Apple, Bravo, IBM, Oracle, and Xfinity Next to Pro-Nazi Content From Its Web", what an interesting search phrase 🤔
As Musk endorses antisemitic conspiracy theory, X has been placing ads for Apple, Bravo, IBM, Oracle, and Xfinity next to pro-Nazi content

Media Matters for America
@ljdrama @molly0xfff
yeah, found it. Would not have found it if not for Musk's lawsuit 🙃
@molly0xfff They officially admit that they are conservative media as well. On the first page.
@molly0xfff is this real?
@mrzaius @molly0xfff which is interesting since the whole business idea for these social media sites is that people spend hours excessively scrolling 😂
@mrzaius no.
As you can see in the complaint, it is not saying it’s illegal to engage in excessive scrolling or refreshing.

@molly0xfff That's what happens when a person's peaches freeze over.

#freezepeach #thestruggleisreal

@molly0xfff Mmm… copies on webpages owned and controlled by others will still be allowed it seems. 🤔 🤣
@molly0xfff I've found that anyone who claims to be a free speech absolutist is usually just a fascist who wants the right to use racial slurs, but who(like most fascists) gets really butthurt when someone disagrees with their fascism.

@molly0xfff
and for those looking to use the full user story in their sprint planning:
as a passionate supporter of free speech,
i want to sue a publisher and author to force them to take down an article i didn't like,
so that i can prove how pro free speech i am

pls remember to agree on your definition of done before you start your sprint

@molly0xfff

Ah yes... the 'free speech absolutist' who thinks that it means that he should be free to say whatever he wants free from any consequences of his actions.

What a pathetic cucking funt. 🤣

@molly0xfff @glynmoody

OTOH isn't it "forcing X to take down content we don't like" to go after their rent income until they take down content we don't like? Pot calling the kettle black?

I've always been a strong supporter of #FreeSpeech since before I even joined the internet in 1994.

@RuiSeabra @molly0xfff @glynmoody
What are you even talking about? Nobody is forcing anyone to take anything down. They're shedding light on the fact that company's ads are being shown next to Nazi shit. Companies are then free to decide whether or not they want to continue funding, you know, Nazi shit.

Free speech doesn't mean a platform is entitled to advertising revenue. What kind of argument is that?

@RuiSeabra @glynmoody no, it is not. a court order that would force MMfA to take down critical (but not defamatory) speech is a very different beast than an advertiser deciding to withdraw monetary support because they're dissatisfied with twitter's moderation philosophy.
@molly0xfff That is mere word-play. It is effectively censorship, but the threat comes from another powerful actor rather than the government or a court.
@RuiSeabra it is absolutely not mere wordplay. there is a huge distinction between actual freedom of speech and some imagined "freedom to do whatever you want without advertisers pulling support"
@molly0xfff yes, there is a huge dictionary distinction. Nevermind the pratical effect is the same. Just as bad as burning books or forbidding books in schools, like those religious extremists so much like to do in the USA.
@RuiSeabra say you subscribe to my substack. if I then publish something that damages your reputation or threatens your income, should you be forced to continue paying me?

@molly0xfff @glynmoody

It's appalling to me how so many journalists are asking for censorship of content we don't like.

Don't you realize that the cure for bad speech is more good speech?

That these powers you're calling for can be used against you should the government tables turn?

@molly0xfff @gunchleoc I don‘t really get the basis for this lawsuit claiming defamation. I assume Media Matters comlected evidence to support this claim. And it doesn’t seem far fetched, as it is considered acceptable for these types of companies to not really make an effort to properly screen ads and their placement, because „digital“.

@molly0xfff

I suspect that Elon really doesn't understand the concept of free speech 🙂🤷‍♂️

@molly0xfff He really doesn't understand that a provable truth can't be found libelous
@molly0xfff
Setting aside for the moment the blatant free speech absolutist hypocrisy and the revelation that they appear to log every mouse movement isn't he going to be required to disclose full details of 'the algorithm' in order to demonstrate how Media Matters succeeded in gaming it?
@molly0xfff I cannot wait for this to go to discovery
@molly0xfff What #spacekaren means by ‘free speech’ is the right to call an innocent man “pedo guy” without repercussion, not factual reporting about his racism.
