So let me get this straight. The GOP got rid of their Speaker, Kevin McCarthy, because he dared push through a continuing resolution on the budget with the help of mostly Democrats. So after cycling through four possible other leaders, they pick a guy with zero experience and tons of skeletons, who then proposes and pushes through…a continuing resolution on the budget with the help of mostly Democrats. Genius.
@georgetakei It's not about results, it's about being seen to do something. As long as it looks like they're disrupting The System™, their idiot inbred child-molesting voters will keep voting for them.
@mos_8502 @georgetakei the only thing they're disrupting is each other's rib cages

@georgetakei

Surely you’re not expecting rational behavior from the GOP any more? :-)

@georgetakei But the new guy is on the Russian payroll so all the other obstreperous offspring of ill-luck and poor taste on said payroll are fine with him, as they were not with McCarthy, who wasn't.

@georgetakei: That's today, but their "new" speaker is also a christo-fascist who wants to turn the country into a christian theocracy and completely abandon the Constitution. The net is that he's even more dangerous than McCarthy was. And with no experience, he'll be far more prone to completely ignore precedent and established government rules.

Heck, his "laddered" stopgap measure is just a means to force more upheavals more often since the government will have multiple funding cliffs to fall over, but because it was devoid of poison pills directly, it met the Democrats' stated requirements, so they had to vote for it because they honor their agreements unlike the GOP.

@goodreedAJ One step closer to Gilead...
@georgetakei personally I think they're just happy that one their guys is 2nd in line for the presidency and are now hoping for the unthinkable so they don't have to wait until 2024

@georgetakei Kinda suggests it was just a pretense for removing McCarthy.

They don't believe in governance for the people, they aren't in office to do any particularly good work. They are there to justify the bribes that make them rich and nothing more.

@georgetakei

More like:

McCarthy renewed an ethics investigation into Matt Gaetz, so Gaetz invented a pretext to get rid of McCarthy. It is indeed genius, but it's evil genius.

As long as Johnson doesn't investigate Gaetz's misconduct, he can make whatever deals he likes.

@georgetakei

It's the same budget, but now masty gaetz gets to fundraise off having taken out the speaker.

@georgetakei and sadly, they ARE sending their best and brightest
@georgetakei they are in the theater business, but they are not top of the line.

@georgetakei

Don’t underestimate that motherfucker and his strategy to divide the budget into two plans, which makes it a lot easier to do some horrendous things come February.

@georgetakei
I think you've got it, but if you bumped into yourself in following the convoluted GOP logic, I wouldn't be surprised.
@georgetakei
Yeah, that sounds about right.
"USA! USA! USA!...oh, wait..."
@georgetakei It wouldn't look good if Republicans shutdown the government right after they did so poorly in the off-year elections, particularly during Medicare open season. So they'll kick the can down the road until 2024 and try to blame a shutdown on Biden and Democrats - in hopes of getting TFG across the finish line in close states with compliant state legislators - again.
@jwd630 @georgetakei and their constituents are too dumb to ever catch on to the game
@georgetakei exactly... Mike Johnson just did the same thing Kevin Mc Did but... WHERE IS MATT GAETZ?

@georgetakei

Nobody ever accused the MAGAs of being Smart*.

@georgetakei yep at least they did something
@georgetakei
I think Gaetz strategy all along was to get Johnson in place. To have someone they can walk over.
@georgetakei Reading this post, for a second I thought that the had ousted Mike Johnson today and somehow found someone even worse to replace him.
@georgetakei Entirely predictable, of course.

@georgetakei

funny indeed. pure poetry. a House Majority party that cannot legislate without the help of the opposition party. hahaha

@georgetakei Everything must change for everything to stay the same -- Tancredi
@georgetakei They did not mean to have McCarthy booted. 8 Republicans meant to send a message but the Democrats piled on and made it so.
