The Israeli bombing campaign in Gaza is reportedly killing children at a rate unprecedented in 21st-century conflict, according to data https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/interactive/2023/gaza-rising-death-toll-civilians/
Gaza’s death toll: 1 out of every 200 have been killed, according to Health Ministry

More than 11,100 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since Oct. 7, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. They include doctors, journalists, professors and poets.

The Washington Post
@taylorlorenz Impressive given the general disregard for Syrian, Afghani and Yemeni children in world policies.
@taylorlorenz I am normally a supporter of Israel but they are really undermining their standing in the world with this campaign, regardless of the events of Oct. 7. This invasion will shadow them for decades.

@knowmohr

Regardless? Really?

@taylorlorenz

@zeitverschreib Oct. 7 was an act of terror, and yet it does not justify killing up to 10k civilians in response. I worry Israel is following our missteps after 9-11.
@knowmohr As long as Hamas is hiding among civilians and keeps killing people in Israel, I don't see any alternative.
@zeitverschreib @knowmohr as long as you keep your head so far up your own ass you're not gonna see any alternatives than the propaganda spoonfed to you by the media you consume.
@zeitverschreib I am not sure what the solution is. But Hamas clearly wanted to create a no-win scenario for Israel, and they succeeded. I support Israel’s right to exist, and the Palestinians to statehood. Not sure how that will be achieved with extremists dedicated to winner-take-all outcomes.
@taylorlorenz don't mention the dead children, that is apparently antisemitic...🤔

@taylorlorenz

Of course. Since Israel saw fit to basically enclose 1.3 million people with a 50% unemployment rate and 50% of them under 15 in squalid, poverty like conditions, then wonder why they faced retaliation for cutting them off from the rest of the world, so decided to bomb them all to kingdom come including their hospitals.

@taylorlorenz Ukraine lost more that 700 000 children in the last 20 months.
@gelosi @taylorlorenz I lost a million children just yesterday. Couch cushions, amirite?
@Beeks sad you found it funny. Hope war is not touching you and your people ever.
@gelosi do you actually believe that number? How on Earth can you think it is real? That's about 10% of all humans under the age of 18 in Ukraine. It's an absurdly high number that would be impossible to hide.
@gelosi the UN estimates about 10k civilian deaths since Feb 22, so even if they were all children, you'd be off by 7000%

@Beeks more than 700 000 kidnapped. Those close to conscription age might be called soon to army, and thrown in trenches. Genocide nightmare.

Numbers are official. Unfortunately. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_abductions_in_the_Russo-Ukrainian_War

Nothing funny here. And it doesn’t mean child life is different in Gaza, Ukraine, Syria or Israel.

It’s pure pain.

Child abductions in the Russo-Ukrainian War - Wikipedia

@gelosi I'm with you 100% friend, just was way confused where you were getting 700k children killed. Slava Ukraini 🫡
@taylorlorenz I dont like the Graph, because in reality the Israel and Gaza conflict have been going on since centuries. First I thought that it may become less dramatic, if we look at it at a longer time period. But the graphic above shows clearly: It won't😖
@taylorlorenz It is heartbreaking when children are hurt. Two comments you won't like:
- Your data though seems to be based on Hamas reporting.
- What are we to do when they butcher our people? Let them hide behind civilians. On the other hand, I know Hamas wants more casualties on his side and I remain baffled as to what todo.
@taylorlorenz Are those numbers by any chance coming from the terrorist organization that uses civilians as living shields?
@gilbert31 @taylorlorenz These are about the numbers in Wikipedia, which are based on BBC reporting. I‘m pretty sure the BBC is more trustworthy than what the corrupt, right-wing extremist Netanyahu government is giving us.
@taylorlorenz I'm astonished at the lack of humanity of some of the answers this post has received.

@kikebenlloch
Look at it positively! 3 accounts show some prejudiced lack of empathy (to stay polite), 1 of them insistently; about a dozen others have a decent reaction.

And I think this still over-represents the size of the flakking minority.

@taylorlorenz

@taylorlorenz who is the source? Hamas? Qatar?
@taylorlorenz As sad as this is, its part of #Hamas strategy, to use their own people as human shields. They just give a shit about their own people and nobody calls them to respect Geneva Conventions. Strange, isn't it?

@DocB @taylorlorenz so you’re saying that Israel is an idiot for blundering into the obvious trap Hamas laid for them.

Whether evil or stupid, the solution is the same: Stop bombing kids.

@famousringo @taylorlorenz and stop grilling them. Remember who started the fire.
Hamas-massacre.net
@taylorlorenz you should remove that graphic and repost, it is Not an average. Please correct. 4,000 children is the latest total across more than 30 days, it is not a monthly average.
@taylorlorenz don’t suppose anyone has a non paywalled link?

@gregw

Try the uMatrix plugin (no longer maintained, though) and pick/choose what 3rd party sites/features to allow; and/or uBlock Origin; and/or the Archive.today version - though some parts of the graphs (and the ads) will be missing.

@taylorlorenz

@taylorlorenz it's actually really wild that someone made a whole graphic comparing dissimilar numbers. I'm disparing for the future. It's almost incomprehensible to me that it made sense to someone to put average numbers on the same chart with a sum total.
@taylorlorenz I've posted on the WaPo story comments as well. Hopefully they correct it.
@taylorlorenz One has to ask if the Israeli high command are in fact sane... I could think of Stockholm Syndrome as a starting point to question mental health - look it up... mmm!!!
@taylorlorenz AKA #genocide. Breeding future Hamas while claiming to destriy them. Hatred breeds hatred.

@taylorlorenz

Children = ‘vermin’ in Netanyahu’s US-supported & funded extremist administration.

They see nothing but future terrorists in these children because they know their expansionist land-grabbing enterprise will never give way to humanitarianism—by deliberate design, it’s now too late for that.

Thus, they must be exterminated like rats, along with the women, hospital patients and anyone else who gets in the way, including any Jews foolish enough to express moral concern.

@taylorlorenz *No Way* the #Syria rate of child casualties was that low. None. In the ballpark of half a million people died in that war. In the ballpark of 7k per month on average. No way only 100 were children.
@taylorlorenz unfunny example how to distort data
@taylorlorenz by far the greatest murderer of muslim children is radical islam (like hamas) - hamas believes any death toll is acceptable because you either get to go to heaven or deserve to go to hell and they openly advocate for murdering all jews with no intention of stopping there - and who hides military operations under schools and hospitals? hamas would never honor a ceasefire
@taylorlorenz lots of genocide denial in these replies

@taylorlorenz

Basically, it's a #Genocide of the generations at this point.

#ChildrenAreInnocent

@taylorlorenz Hemas (The terrorists) is to blame!
@taylorlorenz This chart is very problematic. It has no time indicated, and I find it impossible to believe that significantly more children weren’t killed in Iraq and Afghanistan is the 2000s.
@taylorlorenz This thread is weird. Astroturfing?
