Whenever you read a negative story about renewable energy, electric vehicles or heat pumps in the media ask yourself:

Could it be that vested interest groups funded and placed the story?

Rarely exposed but this stuff goes on all the time.

Revealed: Media Blitz Against Heat Pumps Funded by Gas Lobby Group

An energy trade association that represents and promotes gas boilers and manufacturers is behind a barrage of negative press attacking heat pumps, DeSmog has learned. Over the past two years, the Energy and Utilities Association (EUA) has paid a public affairs firm to generate hundreds of articles and interviews to lobby the UK government on […]

@janrosenow It never fails to amaze me that people will take those negative stories seriously, and then have nothing but praise when they read an article by the same people talking about how environmentally clean, and safe, nuclear power is.
@janrosenow Still, EVs are a bad rehash of a bad idea, but electric. (comment Sponsored by Big Car)

@janrosenow @briankrebs

The basic plan for the #Carbonarchy is to continue to extract and sell as much as they can from the ground over the next couple of decades. Fear over stranded assets is what drives the officers of these companies

The current ethically compromised #FossilFuels hierarchy are bent on harvesting wealth from their #ClimateCrisis producing companies.

Since they have sold their souls, they will propagandize to secure wealth. The forces of inertia are strong!

#Petrogarchy

@janrosenow dinosaurs never give up without a fight
@janrosenow I'd add nuclear energy to that list.

@janrosenow

Just installed heat pump for home heating and a absolutely love it. It saves money, is quiet, keeps the house uniformly at the set temperature. Much more comfortable. So much better than the old gas system!!!

@janrosenow That's the wrong question to ask. OF COURSE if a story supports the interests of a group, that group would support the story.

The question you should be asking is "Is the story true?".

@bontchev @janrosenow , and if it is not true, can the advertiser have criminal proceedings lodged against them?
(that for one would start lessen international false information).
@bontchev @janrosenow Actually it's not is the story true, because I can believe many are, but the real question is: is the story representative or is it a cherry picked story from a small percentage of negative experiences and/or unrealistic expectations?

With General Electric (GE) leading the pack, these are the 10 biggest renewable energy companies by 12-month trailing revenue.

@janrosenow This kind of thing ought to be disastrous for WPR Agency's image. "People. Purpose. Planet. It’s in our DNA" my arse. https://twitter.com/harry_wood/status/1722646922958086484

@WPRAgency Lovely, but is there any truth to this @DeSmog article about how WPR Agency did a PR campaign against heat pumps? And is it true that a gas boiler trade organisation was paying you to do this? https://t.co/9GixpEyAxg

@janrosenow
Yeah, been reading about renewable energy and it's sources and part of me is hoping it's just the old industries last breath before they all die off. The reality is, fossil fuel usage no longer makes sense economically.

@janrosenow Heat pumps are great technology. I love my ground sourced heat pump in my home. The problem comes when the debate couples renewable electricity to heat pumps. The supply-load mismatch is huge particularly for solar PV. What is needed IMO is more thinking along line of Drake Landing in Alberta.

@janrosenow I just replaced my gas furnace with a high efficiency heat pump, and I even got push-back from the the installers. Best part was telling the gas company why they needed to come remove the meter.
@janrosenow , we're lucky in this case because generally what's more comfortable and cheaper is taken up like wildfire.
Get people who make the change to the 'better' to make sure their energy supply is environmentally friendly as well.

@janrosenow
Not to mention that problems with/caused by these things are never put into scale or proportion to the horrible, awful effects of the fossil fuel industry.

The scale of damage that has already been caused by that industry, and the rate at which more damage is being done is almost incalculable. It's not comparable.

@janrosenow not sure about the EV (car) thing, seeing as they are just replacing one problem with an identical problem.

Cars are the problem, not just their emissions; inefficient use of materials, dangerous to pedestrians and cyclists, and take up valuable land just so they can sit there and do nothing 90% of the time

@janrosenow @briankrebs
Negative stories about heat pumps and renewable energy are all bollocks.
Negative stories about Electric Mass Transit infrastructure is all bollucks.

Some negative stories about EVs are from the fossil fuel industry.

Most negative stories about personal EVs are from people who are concerned about efficient ICE vehicles being made obsolete prior to EoF, Conflict Mining of Cobalt and Lithium and insufficient infrastructure to support EVs.

@janrosenow to be fair electric vehicles are having a nightmare at the moment with privacy concerns, the anti-electric vehicle lobby doesn't really need to work very hard to discredit them, the worst thing is it's totally unnecessary as well, car manufacturers are just looking for another revenue stream...

As far as heat pumps go my boiler has just died, I am faced with two choices, £10k for a heat pump & higher electric bills or £2.5k for a gas boiler & lower gas bills...

@janrosenow I would love to go wind or solar but again the costs are prohibitively high with return on investment taking 10 years...😩
@janrosenow Is not possible that there are contrary facts/opinions? This seems quite judgemental to the contrary.
@janrosenow Definitely a concerted effort underway.
